Community Support Makes for a Fun-Filled Fundraiser

Support from local families and businesses made the recent family fundraiser of the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills (JLOSH) a big success.  The children's theatre event, If You Give a Pig a Pancake & Other Story Books, entertained children and adults alike and raised over $5,000 for the League's charitable programs.

Elizabeth Duncan Pederson, JLOSH President, said: "We are proud of our volunteer efforts which not only brought an entertaining and educational musical production to area families, but also raised funds for our programs that support women and children in the community.  We would like to say a big Thank You to everyone who purchased tickets for the show, and to the local business that supported our fundraiser with generous donations."

The League would like to thank all of our event sponsors, especially Coldwell Banker and Words Bookstore.

Their support contributes to the League's many charitable programs throughout East Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Orange, Short Hills, Springfield, South Orange and West Orange.

JLOSH projects return around $80,000 annually through grants and services to the community and gives more than 7,000 volunteer hours a year.

Recently, JLOSH presented a $40,000 grant to the East Orange Public Library to renovate its Junior Room as part of an ongoing program to promote early literacy.  In addition, the League has been working with local elementary schools in Millburn and Maplewood and South Orange to teach children about the values and rewards of volunteering with its award-winning book, The Littlest Volunteers.
