Edna D. Bird, a lifelong Summit resident, died on June 19, 2010, at Overlook Hospital. She was 82. Born in Summit, Bird graduated from Summit High School in 1946 and worked for Lord & Taylor in Millburn (now the site of Trader Joe's) and later for New Jersey Bell Telephone. She married the late Daniel J. Bird, also of Summit, in 1951, and they remained together until his death in 1993. Bird was well known in Summit was a woman of warmth and compassion, and she was a "substitute grandmother" to generations of neighborhood children.
