Clarinda "Sage" Lewis-Jones

  • Deceased's name: Clarinda "Sage" Lewis-Jones
  • Age: 79
  • Date: 03/13/10
  • Hometown: Millburn, NJ
  • Survived by: son, David daughter, Donna

Clarinda "Sage" Lewis-Jones, 79 originally of Berlin and West Hartford, Connecticut, daughter of Henry Sage and Mary Goodell passed away March 13, 2010, after a prolonged illness. Sage was an alumna of the Ethel Walker School, Simsbury, Connecticut and attended Colby College.

Sage was married in 1952 to Trevor Lewis-Jones of Boonton NJ, and became a resident of Orange, Maplewood, and Millburn NJ for many years.

Sage received a LPN degree in 1965 and was a nurse by profession. She volunteered in Orange Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in the late 1960's, the South Orange Rescue Squad throughout the 1970's, and was a founding member of Maplewood's First Aid Squad.  While volunteering with the "squads" Sage responded to thousands of calls for service – all with caring and compassion, while at the same time keeping husband and children well cared for with her dry sense of humor. While a typical Connecticut Yankee (you know what they're like) she at many times gave a very fine dinner party for friends, of which there were many.

In 1982 Sage moved to Millburn, NJ where she became a well-known and familiar usher at the Paper Mill Playhouse while she also worked for Overlook Hospital. She also had been an active member of the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills.

In 2008 Sage (she never used the name Clarinda) moved to Kansas City to be near son David and his family. Sage leaves her sister, Mary and brother-in-law Bill Stewart of St. Louis MO; her son David and "favorite" daughter-in-law Gwen Lewis-Jones of Lenexa, KS; her daughter Donna and son-in-law Michael Meyer of Minneapolis, MN, and three grown grandchildren, Michael, Brian and Annie Lewis-Jones.

Sage was a remarkable woman, with a determined, no nonsense personality. The world is a better place for her sense of duty and involvement and we will miss her. A memorial service will be held at a later date on her beloved Block Island RI. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the South Orange Rescue and/or Maplewood First Aid Squads.
