Bike Week Supports Reeve Foundation
The event allowed people to learn about and support the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, which is based in Short Hills.
What began as a relationship between repeat customers and Enzzo's Trattoria Restaurant developed into the restaurant owners Perri and Vinny Urso reaching out to help.
"We first started coming to Enzo's all the time for lunch,"said Michele Loiacono, the vice president for human resources at the Short Hills-based Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. "We loved the food and we're right down the street. We began to have Enzo's do our catering, and individuals in our organization hire them to do personal parties. One day Perri approached us and asked what they could do to help."
"She has a big heart," Beverly Slack, Urso's mom, said proudly when asked why her daughter would organize this event. Slack, herself a volunteer with the Women's Community Center in Bridgewater, was among several family members who traveled in to support Urso's effort.
Local businesses had booths set up selling wares or services. A percentage of the proceeds were donated to the foundation.
"Our headquarters have been on Morris Avenue for years, and so many people have no idea that we are a local non-profit. We are thrilled this event allows us to meet people and let them know we are in their backyard," said Maggie Goldberg, the foundation's senior vice president of marketing and communications.
