The Township of Millburn has gone into the recover phase of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene. We are continuing to pump flooded basements of both homes and businesses.

In addition, we are continuing to remove storm debris from down trees and other flood related items. The boil water alert remains in effect, as per New Jersey American Water Company until further notice.

Some areas of the Township have noticed reduced pressure in water.  Resident should be reassured that although this pressure has resulted in diminished capacity of our some of our fire hydrant capabilities, the Millburn Fire Department and Millburn Office of Emergency Management (OEM) have been supported by the State OEM and been provided a tanker task force.

This means that three high capacity water trucks have been dispatched to Millburn and are available for emergency firefighting needs.

These tankers are from the following fire departments:  Boonton Township, Washington Township, and Picatinny Arsenal. Residents should also know that storm related debris can be placed at the curbside (not blocking vehicular traffic) for Department of Public Works pickup.

People who have had their homes flooded can also place damaged property at the curbside. Residents are also reminded not to enter areas that might still be underwater or to careless remove and climb through brush/trees that might still have energized wires.

Jersey Central Power and Lighting Company reports that although they are making every attempt for a fast restoration of power, some of our residents might not have power restoration for up to  four days. Millburn OEM will keep you apprised of the latest information.
