Downtown Pay Machines to Accept Credit Cards
It'll take three to four weeks for the upgrade.
Soon downtown shoppers will only need plastic and not coins to pay for downtown parking.
The Township Committee has agreed to move forward in upgrading the pay machines in three of the downtown parking lots to accept credit cards. The proposal was discussed during Tuesday's committee meeting, and it'll take three to four weeks to complete the work once the purchase order is processed.
The upgrade will cost $835 for all six machines with an additional $1,080 in yearly fees for the service. Jim Suell, a committee member, approached Metric Parking at the League of Municipalities Conference in November about upgrading the machiens.
The upgrade is in response to representatives from the Downtown Millburn Development Alliance and the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce asking for the machines to accept dollars, which the committee debated last month. Some of the concern was the machines would not make change.
Mayor Sandra Haimoff said she was happy the upgrade could be done inexpensively and solve the matter. The change will mean that motorists will not need to have quarters in order to park and will not have machines rejecting dollar bills that are unreadable.
