Firefighters Clean Up Rt. 24 Gas Spill

Accident causes spill into pool of rain water

Firefighters and the Nutley Hazmat crew cleaned up a gas spill following an accident on Route 24 on Tuesday.

The accident was near exit 7-C at around 3:30 p.m., and it involved two vehicles including a construction truck that leaked diesel fuel onto the road, according to a fire department report.

Firefighters applied a drying agent, pads and booms to the spill to confine the spill and clean it up. The gasoline mixed with a large area of rain water, so the crew called in the Nutley Hazmat Team. The hazmat team stayed on the scene until a clean-up crew arrived after the scene was secured.
