Flywheel, the hip, New York City-based indoor cycling gym, which has locations in the Hamptons, Chicago and Boca Raton, recently signed a seven-year lease for the old Deborah Gilbert Smith space and the company’s construction permit was approved in late July.

“There’s nothing else like it,” says Peter Nalitt, who owns the Flywheel space, among other buildings downtown. “It has that New York kind of buzz, it will bring tons of people to town and it’s kind of exciting for people" who do indoor cycling.

Flywheel plans to install 45 indoor cycling bikes in the 4,500-square foot space and aims to be a luxurious experience: Computers are hooked up to the bikes, the lights are theatrical and dim on everyone but the instructor, and clients can book a bike and choose a space in the stadium-like room a week ahead of time.

Tell Flywheel your shoe size and there will a pair of biking shoes, a towel and bottle of “Fly” water waiting for you in your cubby.

Prices haven't been firmly established yet for Millburn but in New York, the cost is $30 for a "single "ride" (class), and $24.75 per class for clients who buy in bulk. In Chicago, classes are $25/ride for a single class, and $20/class for packages of 20.

Sherri Shapiro, a Flywheel partner and Short Hills resident, who has been Spinning™ at Can Do fitness for 10 years, says she pushed to open a Flywheel in Millburn.

“We like to be in downtown locations,” says Shapiro. “And the proximity to the train station is beneficial for local commuters, before and after work.”
