Friday Updates from the Township
Town releases info on clean-up efforts, water, electric, debris collection and other storm-related matters.
Editor's note: The following information was released by Lt. Peter Eakley, spokesman for the Millburn Police Department and the Millburn Office of Emergency Management. Patch will follow up with stories but wanted to provide the information to you quickly in its entirety here:
The following is an update on conditions in the Township of Millburn:
1) Power update
a. The Springfield grid power has been restored, which resulted in the power being restored in the Glenwood and Old Short areas of the Township.
b. A major section of the Wyoming Area’s power has been restored. We have been told that Jersey Central Power and Lighting Company will be making every attempt to finish power restoration in the Wyoming area today.
c. We have also been told that JCPL intends to start restoration in the South Mountain Estates starting today.
2) Water Update
a. The New Jersey American Water Company’s pressure improves. The Millburn Fire Department continues to take pressure tests from fire hydrants. Although we are keeping the tanker task force, the leadership of the Millburn Fire Department is confident that key on street fire hydrants can be utilized if there is a fire.
b. At this juncture Millburn is still under a boil water alert. The boil water alert has been lifted for some other area communities, but not Millburn Township.
c. We are asking all our residents to not water their lawns for the next couple of days, so pressure can be restored in a more expeditious manner.
3) More and more streets continue to reopen. We have assigned MPD Patrol Division to update the road condition list. When this information is updated, we will forward it.
4) Our water distribution site at South Mountain School continues to remain open and operational.
5) Residents can still utilize, during normal hours, the Millburn Pool for shower facilities.
Millburn OEM will continue to keep you apprised of the latest information.

Has anyone seen any JCPL trucks along Millburn Ave in front of the high school? I live in that apartment complex, and half of it has been without power since early Sunday morning. I have not seen a single JCPL truck, and JCPL can't tell me anything except that it may be as late as Sunday. I'm at my wits' end.

I just left a message with the town hall administrator's office to let them know parts of Glenwood still don't have power. We don't want to fall through the crakcs.

Why wasn't this message sent reverse 911?!!! I've been checking multiple websites to find out the status of the water and power and stumbled across this. This information should be sent to everyone via reverse 911!!!

The information from Lt. Eakley. All updates should be going reverse 911.

Reverse 911 is for important information, I don't think the entire community needs to know who has their power back?
SHMill

I would say that hearing our water update is important information for the entire community. No more important than yesterday's call reminding the foolish people still watering their lawns to turn off their sprinklers!!!

And now that the boil advisory has been lifted/revised for parts of M-SH, there has still been no reverse 911. I would say someone needs to define what is "important" information for the use of this system. I believe there was an article written by a Patch reader suggesting reverse 911 should have been used to inform the community of break ins in her area, also not an emergency as was the response given by j s beckerman under the Boil Advisory Lifted article. Consistent communication-please!

Assemblyman,
I hope once basic services are restored a complete investigation occurs not only regarding the actions of the Township Committee but the administrators office too.
The root of this problem goes back to Hurricane Floyd and before, and the inadequacy of the berm on Haran Circle, the retaining wall on Ridgewood Road, and the other projects that took place downtown and beyond demonstrates incompetence at the highest level.. Many of these projects were built at taxpayer expense and inconvenience and have yielded much of this horriffic situation.
Every big storm is now categorized as a 100 year event, so please let's not use that as an excuse. And let's not allow these these folks get off the hook!

...and can't the town leave the library or some other air conditioned space with electrical outlets open and available during the weekend?

We live on Myrtle Ave in South Mountain. We are on day 6 and are still in the dark when we try any information from JCPL. We are one of the hardest hit areas of Millburn, yet we are last on the list with no site of a JCPL truck in our neighborhood. The people we elected have done NOTHiNIG for those of us in South Mountain. They have left us out and should be raked over the coals! Where can we get some help. We pay enormous taxes with nothing return .

Homeowner, thank you for the information. Is there any way of knowing which neighborhoods JCP&L plans to work on first? I have been on the phone with JCP&L several times over the last couple of days and I cannot get any information from them. Tomorrow will be day 7 with no power and I'm ready to climb the walls! The way JCP&L has handled this is simply inexcusable!

Tomato,
Unfortunately, it's just a spreadsheet with our town's numbers as one of many. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
