Gov: 'Get the Hell Off the Beach'

Christie issues frank warning to evacuation laggards.

Love him or hate him, Gov. Chris Christie does have a knack for getting his point across.

In this video released today by his office, Christie, a Republican, pulls no punches in advising people to leave the Jersey Shore, where this afternoon some people were still sunning themselves despite warnings from emergency management personnel that Hurricane Irene promises to be a uniquely destructive storm.

The Jersey Shore is expected to get pummeled by Irene, which is on track to be in South Jersey by tomorrow.

Christie's blunt admonition to beachgoers appears at around the 35-second mark in this video.

Straight talk in the face of the impending storm has been something of a bipartisan affair today. Another prominent state politician, Cory Booker, Newark's Democratic mayor, urged residents of his city not to be "stupid enough" to attend events on Sunday that have not already been cancelled. The slow-moving hurricane is expected to be in our area throughout the latter half of the weekend.
