The Millburn Short-Hills Athletic Club KravMaga Strong program visited West Orange High School Thursday to give the girls a lesson in self-defense.

More than 1,000 girls from ninth to 12th grade spent the day learning how to escape choke holds and fend-off atackers.

The program was developed by Michael Romano, Susie Greenfeig and Dave Ordini.

Greenfeig said statistics show one in five women are sexually assaulted their first year in college. "Once we started reading about the stats, we thought, wow we better get to the seniors," she said.

KravMaga Strong volunteers at area high schools offering free workshops. Classes are also offered for men and women at the Millburn Short-Hills Athletic Club located on 12 Holmes Street.
