Millburn's 2012 Election Results

Tuesday was Election Day in Millburn and Short Hills.
The Patch covered all the races on the ballot with Tuesday night's unofficial results below:
Board of Education
Four candidates ran for the three board seats up for grabs. With 13 of 16 districts reporting, early results here.
Board members Mark Zucker and Sam Levy did not run for reelection.
Township Committee
Mayor Sandra Haimoff ran unopposed for her seat on the committee. With 13 of 16 districts reporting, early results here.

The deadline for electronic voting has been extended due to high volume of requests throughout the state on Tuesday. If you've had problems voting let us know here.
Public Questions
Residents voted yes or no on two questions about the "Building Our Future Bond Act" and a constitutional amendment allowing contributions to be taken from justices' and judges' salaries for their employee benefits. Currently, no results reported.

*The voting machine in the Millburn Library has been replaced. It was reported broken approximately 8:15 a.m. for district 2 and 6 voters.

I just spoke with the county cleark's office (973-621-4921). If you're not in town, you can go to the county election site:

Just print out the mail-in ballot application. Fill it out, sign it and email it to info@essexclerk.com today and they will email you back a provisional ballot. The provisional ballot will not include local elections only the national elections, but it's better than not voting. Once you've completed the provisional ballot you just email it back before 8pm tomorrow to vote.

I phoned and emailed the essex county clerk all day. I called and emailed the state elections office. I emailed the governor's office. Nothing but busy signals, leaving messages in voicemailboxes and receiving no responses. Looks like I won't be able to vote for the first time since 1988. Damn it.

If you are in NJ, you can vote at ANY polling place in the state today. They will give you a provisional ballot.

Thanks KLF - I am out of town. Still no power at my house. The procedure to vote out of town is to fill out and sign a ballot request and email it to the county clerk. Someone in the clerk's office then checks to confirm you're registered and emails you back a provisional ballot (which will not let you vote on local elections or ballot measures - because there's only one form for the state). You then send it back by email. They hold the provisional ballot for 10 days after the election to be certain you didn't vote at a polling site. Eventually your vote is counted but it cannot effect the tally today.
The email box for the county has been full since yesterday morning and you get a bounceback when you email in your form. Their fax machine and phone number is also busy. I've been calling over and over for the last 24 hours and haven't received a response.
Mr. Durkin gave out his personal hotmail account and I sent my applications there yesterday evening. I also sent them to a "jferry" at the clerk's office. Neither of those addresses bounced back, so they have my and my wife's applications. I still haven't received my provisional ballots though. This process is obviously a last minute, incredibly poorly organized and dysfunctional effort. I want to vote badly enough that I'll keep pressing, but I don't have a printer or scanner or fax where we are staying so once the library and town stationary store close today I'm out of luck. That's in 6 more hours.

I reside in Essex county and also displaced to outside NJ. On Sunday/Monday I had the same issues trying to get in contact with the Essex country clerk's office due to full inbox and busy signals. I did send a note to state election division at feedback@sos.state.nj.us and got a response back today. They are obviously overloaded with response for email voting and trying to empty their inboxes to allow for incoming responses. I did finally successfully get my email to essex county office but yet to receive any confirmation. Hoping for the best in this less than perfect process.

the governor pulled this out at the last minute, there was no way the county clerks offices throughout the state could have been prepared for this. Also note, they don't have the most up to date technology. Don't blame the clerks offices, they are doing the best they can.

Haimoff on the ballot for township council. DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT VOTE FOR HER. Write in anyone else...I chose Dan Baer. Write in Mickey Mouse, Superman or McCheese...anything is better. Be smart MIllburn/Short Hills - if you think they won't select her mayor again you might be surprised. This town is backassward.

There is only one reason why you should not vote for any incumbent running in this town -
There was no Red Cross Shelter available for any of our town residence in the town of Millburn - this is the direct responsibility of our town's leadership. They are in charge of our local OEM and made no plan to provide a safe warm shelter for those displaced. If you called you were sent to the County Shelter in west orange which was a mess. Every other town including Livingston, Summit, Maplewood So Orange had their own shelters Millburn did not and there is no excuse.

Dan Baer is no solution to our current problem. While in office he schemed to have 5 story high density housing, would have wrecked the town had he succeeded. He is very disingenuous . The current mayor"s lethargic response cannot be defended and neither can the rest of the committee"s MIA performance , but Dan Baer is not a better option.

I'll take my chances with Dan Baer, thanks. We HAVE to get rid of Haimoff. Then we will see who the Township Committee selects among their choices for mayor. Mayor McCheese will not get rid of her; even one vote for Haimoff means she gets reelected against a fictional character.
