What's Open, What's Closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Here's a list of openings and closings on the federal holiday.

 

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day set aside to celebrate and honor the birthday of the slain civil rights leader. The holiday is celebrated at both the federal and state levels. Here's a list of what's open and what's closed on Monday.

State and local government offices are closed.

Courts are closed.

Financial and stock markets are closed.

Post offices are closed with no regular mail delivery.

Banks have the option to close.

Public schools are open today because of missed days during Superstorm Sandy. 

Trash pick up: In Millburn and Short Hills, there will be trash pick up.

NJ Transit trains will operate on a major holiday/weekend schedule. Bus schedules vary by route, and some routes may be affected. The Newark Light Rail will operate on a Saturday/holiday schedule; the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will be on a Saturday/Sunday schedule and the River Line will operate on a Sunday schedule. PATH trains will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Museums: Some are open with MLK programming and others are closed. Check before you go.

Thanks, Patch. The 2012 township calendar now has no mention of trash/recycling collecting.

Just fyi, there's a note on the town website's new garbage collection info that states that "trash will not be picked up only on major holidays, which includes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. All other holidays will receive trash and/or recycling collection."
