In the wake of Sandy, gas is the commodity worrying Millburn residents and the township as cold weather approaches. Gas rationing started on Saturday

limits at some station but long lines at all stations.

The Patch asks residents to use this post to add open gas stations with any information for their neighbors. Some have took to Rt. 78 and drove West, yet yesterday lines formed there as well.

Here's some known open gas stations. If you know any others that are closer please add it in the comments, email craig.mccarthy@patch.com, add it to our Facebook page or Tweet at us

  • Lukeoil on Main street in Madison.
  • Sunoco on Morris Turnpike,
  • Gulf Station in Livingston, 625 S. Livingston Ave.,
  • Unconfirmed stations open on Route 22 in Union and Springfield.
  • Sunoco in Totowa/ Little Falls on Rt. 46 East open.
  • Parkway northbound and southbound near mile-marker 151, gas stations open with over 100 cars in line.

There might be some light in the near future for everyone in New Jersey though.

According to Reuters, the Colonial Pipeline, which supplies 15 percent of the East coast with fuel, started deliveries to Linden late afternoon on Thursday.

However, fuel will still be in short supply while power is out to New Jersey's refineries and oil storage facilities.

Essex County officials asked President Obama and Gov. Christie for assistance with gas on Thurdsay.

There's also a map of gas stations open. Yet, no information is known on how much or when it will run out though.

Sunoco on Rt 3 (west-bound lane) in Clifton, just past Tick Tock diner, was open as of 2AM. Attendant told me that they may run out-of-gas around 3AM, but delivery is expected Thursday. Long lines for cars, but pedestrians with gas cans experience very short wait.

My neighbor went to the NJ turnpike & said if you go SOUTH & get off exit 8A there's a station on the NORTHBOUND side between 8 & 9 that has gas & shorter lines. I would call before venturing out. It was a rest stop too with a woman's name (sorry that was all I got!)

I already see the gas lines shrinking at many stations. I think in a few days the problem will be over for the most part. However, I do have a problem with how most towns stationed so many police officers at the gas stations. When I pulled into Kings on Saturday evening, there were two Millburn police cars and a Millburn police jeep, with lights flashing, all sitting at the gas station. When I left Kings about 45 minutes later, they were all still there. The officers were talking to each other and on their cell phones. I then drove back home through the dark and powerless streets of Short Hills, No electric, no alarms, no phone service, no way to call for help if needed. Why were the police standing whatching the gas line instead of driving through our town to insure our safety? This went on for days. It also went on in Bellleville, Nutley, and a few other towns I drove through over the weekend. This maes no sense. One officer with a police radio is all that is needed at any station. If the drivers revolted for gas, a call on the radio would get help quickly. In Belleville, I realized the police were all at the stations so their family and friends could jump the lines and get gas.

In East Hanover/Whippany there are 2 gas stations open with virtually no line as of 2:30 PM: BP near Rt 10 W/Algonquin Parkway and Straus Auto near Rt/Ridgedale Avenue. BP is accepting credit cards. Strauss Auto may be cash only, not sure.
