Magic 10U Softball Squad downs Watchung

The team wins 11-5 in rain-soaked game.

The Millburn Magic 10U softball squad battled the elements and the Watchung Flash Friday night under the lights at the Long Hill complex.  The elements put up a better fight, and the Magic emerged victorious in a lopsided 11-5 rout in a rain-shortened game.

The Magic sent out flame throwing right-hander Jenna Dembner to the mound to face the hot-hitting Flash. but they were no match for the Magic ace hurler. She struck out the side in both the first and second inning.

Then the rains came, making the pitching conditions challenging as Dembner had difficulty gripping the ball leading to a nightmare inning, walking five and hitting three batters.  She did strike out two, but the combination of walks and hit batsman gave the Flash their five runs.

While the Flash showed some signs of life, the promise was short lived as Dembner went back out in the fourth inning and promptly struck out the side.  In the end, her four innings of work yielded an impressive 11 strike outs, no hits, and five runs.

Offensively, the Magic were led by Daniella Petrocelli who was 1-for-1 with two walks, three runs scored and an RBI; Erica Lupiano who was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI; Kayla Wolf who went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI; Jenna Dembner who went 2-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and two RBI; Julia Tarnow who went 1-for-2 with a run scored and Jessie Finkelstein with 2 RBI.

But the hitting star was Lauren Weissman who ended the third inning with a two-run double, putting the game out of reach. The trio of Sydney Zirlin, Chloe Radtke and Emily Torre combined for five walks and four runs scored.

The 10U Magic (4-2) look to continue their winnings ways against Branchburg Friday night.
