Six Millburn High School students were recently selected as members of the New Jersey All-State Band, Orchestra and Chorus, and one student made it into the All-National Band, where he performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
To get into the All-State Band, Orchestra or Chorus, hundreds of student musicians, representing dozens of schools throughout the state, audition each year, with only those receiving the highest scores gaining membership.
William Krinsman, bassoon, Upas Narayan, clarinet, Hannah Park, violin, and Michelle Lou, cello, participated in the All-State Orchestra. Samuel Gersho, tenor, and Victoria Nachevnik, soprano, performed with the mixed chorus.
Upas Narayan was also a member of the 2011 All-National Band. He performed with other student musicians from all over the country at the Kennedy Center in June.
The New Jersey Music Educators Association sponsors all regional and All-State Honors Ensembles program. The All-State Orchestra and Chorus groups perform in November at the New Jersey Educator’s Association Annual Convention in Atlantic City and at NJPAC. The All-State Bands perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in February, as part of the annual conference of the New Jersey Music Educators Association.
