MHS Presents its Annual Spring Concert
Symphonic and Concert bands along with wind ensembles to perform Wednesday night.
The Music Department of Millburn High School will present its annual Spring Band Concert on Wednesday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Ensembles are under the direction of Mindy Scheierman, Director of Bands and Matthew Spatz, Associate Director of Bands.
The concert features folk themes and melodies from around the world. In addition, senior members will be recognized throughout the performance. The Concert Band, an ensemble of ninth grade musicians, will open the concert with Prairie Schooner by Bruce Preuninger and also perform music by composers Pierre LaPlante and Julie Giroux. The Wind Ensemble, an advanced ensemble of accelerated level band students in grades 9-12, will perform select movements from Lincolnshire Posy by Percy Grainger and feature senior euphonium soloist Catherine Budish.
There will be two Symphonic Bands comprised of student musicians in grades 10, 11, and 12. Symphonic Band Blue will open the second half of the program with works by Percy Grainger and Philip Sparke and end their set with George Washington Bicentennial March by John Philip Sousa. Symphonic Band White will feature music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and André Jutras, and end the concert with the programmatic work Sedona by Steven Reineke.
The MHS Music Boosters will be selling refreshments and accepting donations and memberships throughout the evening. The concert will be professionally recorded and CD orders may be placed in the lobby at the concert.
This concert is free and open to the public.
