Millburn-Short Hills Scenes: Revolutionary War Grave
Man who died in the Battle of Springfield buried in Short Hills
There are echoes of Millburn-Short Hills' past at the corner of White Oak Ridge and Parsonage Hill roads.
The small graveyard has gravestones that date back to the 1700s, including one for Nicholas Parcell, who died in June 1780. It's believed Parcell died during the Battle of Springfield and may have been the only American who died during the Revolutionary War battle.
His gravestone says he "bled and dyed for Liberty from British Tyrents" and that he is now free.
