May 1 Weekend Games

NEW JERSEY STATE CUP PLAY

On Friday, the Millburn Soccer Club’s Flash dominated in overtime to defeat the Vikings FC 5-3 in the New Jersey Cup.  The Flash overcame a one-goal deficit in the first half and took a 3-2 lead in the second half on Melissa Gates’ hat trick, but gave up the equalizer at 3-3 with 15 seconds left in regulation. 

In the first 30 seconds of overtime, Gioia Basile scored on a 15 yarder from the right side set up by a great pass from Essie Pasternak; Gioia also added a penalty kick to seal the victory.  Isabelle Burakov and Lauren Oxley both had assists and Grace Mayo made numerous great saves in goal.

The Millburn Titans got a big win in the quarter finals of the NJ Cup, defeating PASCO Galacticos 4-0.   Starting the scoring for Millburn in the first half was Matt Jordan.  Max Engelbrechtsen scored on a header from a corner kick from Ben Pampush in the second half. Matt Knowles forced an own goal by PASCO, and Ben Bograd finished the scoring after a great run and pass from Reese Little.  Bryce Millington and Ben Kessler contributed mightily to the shutout,  and Dillon Konzelmann starred in the goal.  Great efforts by all propelled the Titans to victory. They will travel to the semi finals on May 15.

The Millburn Soccer Club's Blast defeated the Monroe Township Soccer Club's Bombers 3 to 2 in Monroe.  In the first half Michael Stulberger made a great pass for an assist on Jake Friedman's goal.   The second half started with a 1-1 tie.   The Blast fought hard with Andrew Wohlbruck scoring on a penalty kick and Friedman's second goal winning the game.  Stellar performance by Jonah Liwschitz and Justin Green. 

Millburn Spirit
girls U13 won a decisive game 3-1 over Readington Storm.   Faith Belcuore scored 2 goals off assists from Kelsea Brown and from Jacqueline Marino.  A third goal was scored by Kelsea Brown in the second half to secure the lead for the Spirit.  Offensive play kept the Spirit in the lead and strong defensive play by Libby Lee, Alison Cundey, Alexa Jentis kept the Storm's goal scoring down.

The Millburn Mystics U8 Girls tied the Greater Flemington Fire 2-2 on. Jordyn Lipkin scored the 2 goals and Ella Singer was a very strong goalkeeper.  Hannah Meyerowitz and Lauren Liu played a strong defensive game.  

The Millburn Barracudas lost for the first time all season 3-1 to the Livingston Lady Leopards. Leah Mangold scored the loan goal, with Kyra Goldman providing the assist. The defense received great play from Aubrey Wright, Caleigh Trachtman and Lane Patterson.

The Millburn Rangers lost a hard fought battle to the Woodbridge Rapids 4-3.  Trailing 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, Jack Hall tallied a goal for the Rangers to make it 3-1 at the half.  Zachary Barr and Blake Oppenheim each scored second half goals to tie the game at 3, but Woodbridge scored the game winning goal midway through the 4th quarter.  The Rangers received excellent defensive play from Barr and Luko Varnish and stellar goaltending

The Girls U11 Monarchs defeated the Chatham United Cheetahs 2-0 on Sunday.  Isabelle Orlan scored both Monarchs goals, the first on a perfect series of passes from Rachel Broder and Emily Kanter.  The second goal was set up by Niamh Freeman and Olivia Stack. Goalkeepers Bianca Marino, Ami Gianchandani and Barri Boyarsky played excellent  goal for the weekend.

The Millburn Titans fought to the end in a 2-0 loss to PDA Rooney.  Rooney netted an early goal and scored one more time toward the end of the first half.  The second half was scoreless, with great defensive play from Max Engelbrechtsen, Ben Kessler, Bryce Millington, Dillon Konzelmann, and Nick Mandonado.

SUNDAY'S GAMES:

The Mystics defeated the Ridge Mavericks Rockets 5-0. Jordyn Lipkin scored 1 goal and Carly Bernstein had more than a hat trick, scoring the next 4 goals consecutively.  Jessie Rievman and Samantha Rothman played a strong offensive game.

The Millburn Cobras offense exploded for seven goals in their 7-4 win over the Berkeley Heights Blitz.   Zach Ravitz tallied two goals and Andrew Siracuse, Andrew Clark, Brandon Perry, Evan Fleisig and Filip Cakulev chipped in one each.  Charlie Levison, Alex Flaum, Will Rosenberg and Michael Kologlu earned assists.    

A first half goal by Paige Krikorian on a rebound from a 30 yard direct kick off the goal post by Lauren O'Neill was all the scoring in a 1-0 Sting win over the Hamilton Flash. Strong offensive play by Christy Dwyer, Paige Willian and Julia Burakovsky kept pressure on all game.  

The Millburn Raiders defeated the Spirit United 2-1 this past Sunday with goals from Daniel Ratner and Alex Dillon.  Alex Tomko and Miles Park turned in solid goalkeeping for the Raiders.  

Elie Forster scored the lone Piranhas goal in their 3-1 reversal against the Watchung Hills Starz. Ella Parlavecchio assisted on the goal and played well in defeat. Cara Flyer, Samie Haber and Alex Boyarsky were strong defensively and Lydia Miller was solid in goal.  

Christiano Hocken's picture perfect cross to Eric Silverstein who scored with seconds left to the game, led the U-12 Pythons to a 1-0 victory over the Ocean Ligtning in a hard-fought match.  The Pythons had control of the offense for most of the game with Logan Schneider, Drew Cohn, Will Anton, Spencer Schneider, Perry Schwartz, and Matthew Brenner battling to to net a goal.  Meanwhile, Justin Wang, Andrew Karp, Gabriel Nadell, and Nathaniel Charendoff put up a solid defense to keep the Lightning at bay while keeper, Justin Ehly, had several outstanding saves in goal.

Leah Mangold scored on a direct kick in the 2nd half to help the Barracudas win 1-0 over the Greater Flemington Firecrackers. The Barracudas received stellar over play from Yasmin Hallinan, Emma Capanna, and Remie Lamkin. Paige Nemet & Taylor Nemet played exceptional in goal. 

The Millburn Rangers were defeated by the S. Plainfield Warriors 4-0.  The Rangers received excellent all around play from Luke Pickard and Ryan Garfinkle.      

The Millburn Cyclones defeated the South Brunswick Storm  6-1.  Julia Fried netted three goals and two assists, Hannah Barr contributed two goals and 2 assists, and Sophie Wolf was credited with the final goal.  Amy Nadel also earned an assist.  The Cyclones received strong defensive play from Keeper Mary Pagano and defenders Evie Schott and Ellen Stoler.

The Millburn Heat battled the Westfield Terps to a 2-2 tie on Sunday, May 1. Zane Solender and Christian Clark both had goals for the Heat. Sam Meyerowitz and Brandon Krikorian starred in the field.    

The Millburn Dynamite defeated the Ridge Mavericks by a score of 3-0.  Peyton Schwartz, Anna Loprete, and Bridgette Muller each had a goal for the Dynamite while Rachel Evenchick and Yenna Ji were standouts on defense. 

Tornadoes returned to winning form in emphatic fashion on Sunday with a 3 - 0 victory in a top-of-the-table clash with Hunterdon United Hurricanes. Rachel Hubertus opened Tornadoes' account with a close range effort following a corner kick from Ally Langendorff. Daniella Petroelli reacted quickly 10 minutes later to pounce on a loose ball in a goal mouth melee to send Tornadoes in 2 - 0 up at the half. Phoebe Oxley in goal calmly snuffed out any Hurricanes attempts to score, and with 7 minutes remaining, Darice Lee scored from the penaly spot after her own effort had been handled by a Hurricanes' defender.  

The Bloomfield Red Storm defeated the Millburn Jaguars 2-0 on Sunday May 1st.  Stars for the Jaguars were Srujana Sinha and Arielle Fried.  

The Millburn Hornets shut out Watchung with a 2-0 win.  Ava Belcoure scored with an assist from Katelyn Zegas.  Sarah Rovit brought in the second goal, while goalies Samantha Comito, Sarah Rovit,  Annie Beckerman, and Libby LIndstrom all held back Watchung.  Sophie Hoodis and Jessica Stern starred on defense

In Sunday's home match against the Readington Raiders The Blast came out victorious 2-1.  Jake Friedman scored both goals  with excellent defensive play by Thomas Wohlbruck and Mark Hubertus.  Great goal tending in both games  by Henry Miller and  Richard Erhardt.  

The Millburn Braves (U11)  lost to the East Brunswick Gladiators 2-1 in East Brunswick.  Matthew Bernstein scored for the Braves.  AJ Greenberg was goalie for the Braves.  

The Millburn Missiles defeated the Somerset Hills Cyclones 5-2 on Sunday May 1st at Millburn High School.  The Missiles were led with 2 goals by Aidan Gregorian and 3 goals by Ben Lipkin.            

The Inferno suffered a 5-3 loss to Piscataway Pirates on Sunday.  Inferno fought back a 4-0 deficit with goals from Harry Fleisig (2) and Ethan Sollender.  Solid defensive effort from William Cerulli and Miles Ostroff held Piscataway to only one goal in the second half.
