Mayor Brings Power Company Frustrations to Governor

According to the mayor, JCP&L wouldn't provide any information about restoring power to Millburn.

For updates on this story, like the Millburn Patch on Facebook and follow us on TwitterUpdated 4:06 p.m.

As the weekend approaches and the temperature drops, Jersey Central Power and Light has left Millburn township in the dark with no answers.

Jersey Central Power and Light restored power to the Hartshorn school and many houses along White Oak Ridge Road around 3 p.m. Haimoff said.

However, company has not responded to the township with any plan or time line after multiple calls, Mayor Sandra Haimoff said on Friday.

JCP&L is still assessing the damages while slowly restoring power, company officials said earlier this week and that's all the township has been told since then.

The Patch has been unable to reach any official at JCP&L for comment since Wednesday.

The mayor brought the townships' complaints to the governor's office on Friday.

"We can't get answers that we need from JCP&L," Mayor Sandra Haimoff said Thursday morning. "I was on the governor's conference call [Wednesday] night and they are flying in trucks and crews on air force planes but they are not specific to Millburn."

Millburn residents will be able to vote in the election on Tuesday though, without having to leave town, the mayor said. The Congregation B'nai Jeshurun, 1025 South Orange Ave. in Short Hills, is the proposed location.

On a lighter note, the restaurants in the Short Hills Mall will stay open tonight for residents to get a hot meal and warm up. The Millburn Police have issued a 6 p.m. curfew for all other businesses besides those restaurants.

"More roads are opening up every minute," Caption Michael Palardy said. "If the power could come on we'd be in good shape."

Electricity aside, the other issue on residents' mind has become where to find gas for generators and cars in this prolonged period of darkness. In response to residents' requests, here's list of what stations the Patch found open around the area.

However, the New Jersey Army National Guard Armory in West Orange opened to refuel police, fire and first aid vehicles to allow townships to operate, according to Fire Chief Michael Roberts.

"We do have some challenges ahead of us," Business Administrator Tim Gordon said.

The township worked vigorously throughout the day on Wednesday and Thursday to clear roads and currently most main road are clear.

The township has turned its focus to Millburn's side streets. On Thursday, the township had five crews out removing trees and wires.

Only two of those crews are trained to remove wires and trees. These crews also have to rely on a JCP&L employee to confirm the wire is not active before the crews can remove it.

"A crane has been brought in and trees are being removed from Mountainview and Undercliff that have fallen on houses," the mayor said. "They will then proceed through rest of town poles and lines fixed on Millburn Avenue."

The township had issues last night with the Chatham substation, which feeds Millburn, and are currently looking into it.

"It's going to be a long and slow process," township officials said on Tuesday.

Business Administrator Tim Gordon explained the town is only responsible for township trees and clearing the roads.

A Short Hills resident offered his expertise as a lawyer for residents' concerns about fallen trees.

JCP&L said it will revisit the 7-10 day estimate to restore power after the assessment of damage is complete.

"The system sustained incredible damage," Ron Morano, a JCP&L official, said on Wednesday.

The destruction far surpassed those during Tropical Storm Irene and last year's October snow storm, according to Morano.

The company has no specific time frame for each town, just the 7-10 day estimate to restore power to all its customers. It is restoring power during that process, yet the number in the dark is currently still over a million.

According to the mayor's Twitter, JCP&L is working to fix the transformer that feeds Millburn.

Residents will have to wait on JCP&L to return to normalcy, though.

The charging station at Town Hall has moved to Bauer Community Center in Taylor Park, open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Gero Park will also have charging station on Thursday and Friday. Charging is limited to cell phones.

Here's what's open around Millburn for residents. JCP&L is providing ice and water at the Education Center. More information to come.

Garbage and recycling collection will resume on Thursday.

Millburn school district closed school for Thursday and Friday

Over 300 residents filled up Town Hall throughout the day on Tuesday charging phones, iPads, Kindles and computers.

Residents should not put trees or debris at the curb because it will only make the clean up process later Gordon said.

According to the mayor, 90 percent of JCP&L's customers are out of power. In New Jersey, 2.5 million residents, 62 percent, are with out power as of 9 a.m., the Department of Energy reported.

We aren't going to be told anything but 7-10 days, the standard line from every mayor quoted. They are staying out of making promises of better response. When it comes on sooner everyone will be thrilled. IMHO past year's storms left more noticeable damage. I heard lower Manhattan will have power within 24 hours and they were flooded with seawater only 12 hours ago. We're being fed a line.

Jcp&l should be giving a more detailed timeline for restoration. 24-36 hours to assess damage and to design an action plan. They have been throwing around 7-10 days since before the storm struck. How about an up-to-date estimate.

As usual JCPL is lacking in providing useful information. I appreciate how significant this storm was but there was much more activity immediately following Irene and snowstorm. Finishing at 4:30 is really hard to believe. Not all the downed trees are tied up with live wire. The branches at the end of my street are not live (I saw some brave/stupid people walking over and around them. Lets keep pressuring. This 7-10 day timeline should be updated by now. I was out there and not nearly as many roads are as impassable as OEM is claiming.

Problem is it needs to be coordinated. By now Jcpl should at least have an action plan beyond the "7-10 days" that they were issuing before the storm hit. The town cannot remove trees with wires on them. Our street has numerous large trees down(more than 6) with wires on them. There is no power, yet we are receiving roto-calls from Jcpl that our power has been restored. We have not seen one Jcpl truck come by. If we could get a more accurate timeline, then we can plan better.

Also keep in mind, if you drive around there are not as many down wires as irene. Meaning mostly there are transformers out. Which are easier, less time coinsuming to fix and effects more people on the grid for power.

About 11 AM on Friday Nov 2 I came across a JCP&L truck after walking north on Delwick under white tape, around a downed tree and power lines and back out under tape. In the truck I saw two JCPL employees sitting doing nothing. I asked why they were there and they said they were "guarding the downed wires" because the fuses on the power lines were still in the live posistion. Their assignment struck me as an ineffective use of two people and a truck. One person should have been at either end of the tape if the risk of a charged capacitor releasing current was great. I can also understand guarding a line just before a surge of new power is re-established but this was more than 24 hours before power was restored. Out of hundreds of downed lines the men sent were enabled to only guard this single line and not enabled to fix the problem.

If you live close to a hospital, chances are you are on their grid so the power companies work on those grids first due to the obvious reason of being able to have hospitals open and working to help people in need. The closest hospitals to M/SH are Overlook and St. Barnabas. Chances are most of M/SH are not on the same grids as those two medical centers.

I find it absurd that the mayor has not given any additional information for a day, while residents are facing a period of as long as 10 days without power and a threat to the water supply (according to the patch articles). This information isn't even posted on the town website! I thought Town Hall was open today, what are they doing over there? How are we to know what is accurate? What sort of town are we living in and paying for when they can't even give us updates in a timely fashion? In this day and age of communication, even when nobody has power or cell phone service, I don't find it acceptable to go an entire day without updates.

JCP&L does have to certify that the wires are dead before anyone can touch the trees. A lineman told me that last year when he was working on the lines near our house on the 7th day.

Was out this morning--not even a town truck in sight. This is the second time in two years. Explain to me what our exorbitant taxes go to if not to to clearing the streets in an emergency! This is the second time in two years and it's about time our Town Council started doing its job. I've lived in Millburn for 51 years and have never seen such incompetence

Dear Mayor Haimoff:
I offer the following suggestion to help you keep this town moving forward AND connected. Based on your performance last year with Irene and the Halloween storm maybe you should consider 3 daily updates - 9am - 2pm and 7pm. Regardless if you have news or not you should schedule updates on clean up, power and other news the town needs to hear via the Patch and rely on the community to carry the news to through the town. If there is nothing to update you can tell us that as well - for example, "at this time we have no updates, next update at 2pm. Stay safe".

The key to keeping this town safe and happy is simple...OVER COMMUNICATE!

Just a suggestion. I want to see you win...it's good for all of us.

This is clearly a lack of communication and leadership from Millburn town officials, especially the mayor. In times like this she needs to be a leader and a strong advocate for the town with JCPL. Look at how other mayors, governors and leaders are behaving. As a taxpayer (who pays a lot to live here), I'm angry, frustrated and disappointed.

We know other towns, inclouding Metuchen, parts of South Orange, Maplewood, Newark and Cranford who not only got answers, but got power restored quickly. We have neither. The utter lack of information and outreach from town officials to residents/taxpayers is astonishing. It is particularly disturbing to drive around town and see virtually no activity related to clean-up, removal of trees from wires, or anything else which will bring things back to something close to normal. There should be a "none of the above" option on the ballot next week.

I recall from last year that the problem with switching electric companies is that Jcpl owns the lines. So any other electric co would have to pay Jcpl to use the lines.

You'd think there would be a whirlwind of activity in the streets but instead it's like a ghost town. Mostly people taking walks. Where are the town crews??? I understand about the live wires and all but seems like there are a lot of trees down that the town should be able to take care of.

Does anyone know someone of influence at JCPL that can provide tangible information for Millburn /Short hills. Certainly they have a list of towns and outages and severity and have ranked them in order of need. I would like to know if Millburn short Hills is a top priority, mid priority or lower priority to restore power and a true timeline. Information that is accurate is what is needed. The mayor needs to be working to provide constant updates.

Just like during the crises last year, the emails from Dr. Crisfield have 10x the information compared to the info we're getting from the town & Mayor. Don't understand why I'm learning more from his emails (and watching the news) than from the town.

Just saw on tv that storm-ravaged Sayreville is expected to have power back in 3-4 days. Millburn-Short Hills will take 7-10?????? This is outrageous.

The Mayor may be chosen from the Township Committee, but voters put those Committee members there. The fact that Haimoff is running unopposed is a sad reality that dooms us for more of the same incompetent "leadership" for the foreseeable future.

Yahoo article says 53,000 utility workers have come east to help. Utility companies pay fo them and pass on to customers if utility regulators say yes. Nj better say no to Jcpl given the lack of utility workers we have seen. Article says utilities don't know where there is lack of power and thus they fix substation to get a digital map. Well maybe if they listened to the numerous calls.

Chill folks, PSE&G still doesn't have towns like New Providence, Scotch Plains, etc with power. Rte 22 dark after Union. Mountain Side Loews is open for movies if you want heat and break for a few hours. Gas is scarce down there. Traffic lights are back on in downtown Millburn w/out generator. Yeah progress!!!
FEMA sending trucks from all over US to get us power now. It shouldn't be long now. Please call JCP&L everyday 1-888-544-4877 to report your outage. Just need your billing phone number to report, not acct number. All automated. Get our numbers up there for outages.

I am repeating my earlier post because I believe in it:

Right now, you're not winning...and we're all losing.

COMMUNICATE!!!

Amazing to see the difference in handling of the storm between pse&g and jcp&l. Pse&g provides daily email updates on progress and has already restored power to half of its impacted customers, all while jcp&l is silent and "assesses". Millburn township needs to push for a switch to pse&g. Given our new weather reality, we simply cannot afford to have a sub-standard electricity provider any longer. Need real change here or Millburn will continue to suffer in the future.

As I'm sure most of you, through our PSE&G gas service account I get service updates from them on at least a daily basis. Last update stated that around HALF of affected customers had service restored.

Finally JCP&L included this morning an update on their website that even included ANYTHING about NJ. They've had OH & PA up there since the day after the storm.
Not just from this event, but from every other time in the past where there's been an outage I get the impression that JCP&L couldn't care less about anything that happens in NJ. And why should they? They're located 2 states away, in effect outsourced. In all my NJ life of living in PSE&G-served areas have I gotten any response (or lack) than with JCPL, up to telling me that severe weather caused an outage when it was really a botched repair job 2 blocks away (and taking 30 min to get that info).
PSE&G is owned by PSEG, located in NEWARK.

Maybe it's time we take steps to get off of an Ohio company and get one on from NJ, that has a vested interest in NJ (because they all live here, too). Why are we even on them to begin with with every other town except for Livingston is on Public Service?

I called JCPL this morning. They told me what the nj.com article says. That power should be restored within 7 days, but the hardest hit areas will be an additional 7 days. I asked if they could confirm what would be considered the hardest hit area (since our entire town is out of power, who knows if we are considered the hardest hit area), and they were unable to confirm what area we fell within. I asked where the crews were, since I've seen none, and she said that there were crews working and recovery is in "process".

I called the township phone number as well hoping to get an update. I give the guy who spoke to me kudos because he was actually sympathetic and agreed that an update from the town would be helpful, considering there hasn't been anything on the town website for over a day regarding power restoration. He said crews were working on restoring power along Millburn Ave, that there were a lot of transformers blown and the sub stations sustained a great deal of damage. He confirmed that their fix along Millburn ave, was not a fix at all, whether that is still the case i am unsure. thus the decrease and increase in JCPL #s.

MarkDS,
I understand the thought to see the other side of the story, but personally, I disagree. Our government should have continuity and disaster plans that get set in action in the event of a disaster of this nature. That should include power, fuel and generators for essential gov't needs, including the Mayor and town council being able to communicate with the town's residents. With a $300 generator and a Verizon iPhone I have been working from my house around the clock to help orchestrate my company's BCP plans in the wake of this disaster yet our town government doesn't know their Patch password or how to get their phone charged? How is your phone not charged when you have organized phone charging stations at our town's parks? Maybe I'm being harsh, but gov't has to plan for these events to provide for it's residents who pay taxes.

This situation is unacceptable.

Why is it that Chatham, Wayne and even Conneticut are getting power and not one person in Millburn has. JCP&L has not restored to anyone per the town hall. How is this happening again. We are not a 3rd world country. Now I hear we are on a 6pm curfew because of home robberies. This is a nightmare.

JCP&L currently has crews working directly on the two substations and major transmmission lines that service Millburn Short Hills. While they are reporting significant damage to these, they will be working full time until they are repaired. Because of the amount of damage they are still estimating seven to ten days for restoration though some locations in town might phase in sooner.

i hope you said the response is not good enough. What does full time mean, four thirty like our Millburn crews? Do they have extra crews coming in? I hope you listened to their radio response about the roads not being cleared in Millburn in order for them to work. We need more answers about cleanup. Have you contacted Gov. Christie personally? Two sentences doesn't cut it for the citizens of Millburn Township.

Have you asked for an accounting of the number of personnel JCP&L has deployed to the substations? Are they working 24/7? Do they really have all hands on deck in the substation? That seems implausible as I would think different skill sets are needed at the substation versus dealing with downed wires. Where are the crews to deal with downed wires? We had to drive in town today-- no JCPL trucks anywhere to be seen. If PSE&G can get Jersey City partially back online and Newark back online, we should be looking to switch our town to PSEG.

Disappointed that you did not hear governor Christie state very clearly to DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO GET TOWNS BACK TO NORMAL; don't worry if it's a county road or not a township tree. If it's impeding restoration efforts, FIX IT and ask for forgiveness later. If you need a link to that quote I'm sure it's available. Clearly some of these delays are due to waiting for the township government waiting for the county to come in. I keep hearing Tim Gordon saying Millburn is only responsible for town trees. WRONG ATTITUDE. FIX IT! The governor told you to.

Can we finally switch out JCP&L for PSE&G after this? PSE&G is so much more responsive, and after 3 week-plus outages in as many years, JCP&L's relative shortcomings are all the more apparent. Of course Sandy is exceptional but JCP&L's substandard communications and customer services never fail to disappoint.

This is a multiple part post to work around the character limit. Apologies in advance

While I share the frustrations about the lack of concrete information, I am cognizant of the massive undertaking that this must be and am sure the township council, mayor et al are doing their best to get us back on track. I do think that a few concrete ideas on how to improve communications with some more community involvement might help the situation a bit. That said, here are my initial stream of ideas :

Reply

AD

10:32 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2012

1) establish a volunteer communications team /person. I'm sure many on this board, myself included would gladly volunteer to help with this. Involve these volunteers in the communications with utilities/other agencies so that they may quickly disseminate detailed info to an increasingly struggling town populace.
2) as suggested on this board, have the council or the volunteer team send out hourly/3hourly updates with the latest information available
3) ask for specific plan of action information from JCP&L and deliver good or bad news early. This would include details such as how many people have been committed by JCP&L to Millburn, what specific challenges they are facing, if they complete the current step, what comes next, some kind of sequence or plan of attack on how they will attack the various streets etc. This will at least give people a rough idea of where they are in the sequence. Communicate the questions being asked and the answers or lack thereof being given.
4) Organize/Publicize volunteer efforts to help the community (or at least the safely approach

While this storm has been extremely taxing, I am fortunate to have absolutely fantastic neighbors who have looked out for me and made me (a newcomer) feel very welcome and supported. I would like to return that favor to the community at large, as I'm sure other civic minded people in town who are going stir crazy at home without power would like to do, to move this massive effort along.
I'm sure with broader involvement and more information tempers would flare less and the frustration would hopefully dim as we collectively realize how massive this problem is. I apologize for the long post, but this is my $0.02. If all of the above is already being done or is impractical then perhaps sharing more what is being done and attempted or why the suggestions/requests made by previous posters and me are impractical itself would be a great start.

My comment on this quote from Haimoff - if the entire town doesn't have power, isn't it safe to assume that the wires tangled in trees are not live!

This is a direct quote from Mayor Deluca of Maplewood. Why can't our officials respond like this? http://forum.maplewoodonline.com/vc/discussion/89345/post-hurricane-sandy-maplewoods-response

" We spoke with PSE&G folks again today and believe that we will see more crews over the next few days. This does not mean that the power will come on automatically or all at once across town. We still have 90+% of customers out and some areas are severely damaged. It will take time but I believe we will see some action Friday and this weekend. I know PSEG has begun telling people it will be November 9th but that is unacceptable and we will not allow that to happen.

Our pressure yesterday yielded results. There have been more PSEG trucks in town. You also probably saw the orange trucks with tree cutting crews. These are contract workers for PSE&G. We told them we needed trees removed where there are live wires or trees leaning on wires. The responded by sending in crews today. A good number of additional streets that Public Works could not clean up have been opened by these PSEG crews. "

That being said, you shouldn't assume JS isn't helping in the community based on a joke he was making. As you said yourself there's, "not much I can do". Trying to create confrontation in a situation not warranting more, only hurts the situation further. We should be backing each other up and being supportive. I've lived through Katrina, Gustav, Irene, Rita, Andrew, and countless other storms growing up in New Orleans. We must be unified in our resolve to get through this battle.

I'm not trying to create a "confrontation" as you stated. I don't want the focus to shift over to jokes. I was trying to be supportive by trying to show JS (Jeff?) that this is not a joking situation so we should back each other as you say. And to be unified, one must not deviate from the rest, like jeff (i think that's his name). If we are serious about being unified, we must all have the same demeanor and attitude. Unfortunately, I am not home to help out. If I could, I would, because that is my personality. All I was doing was trying to eliminate the jokes, and it escalated, which I did not intend to happen.

I have been reading these threads incessantly since this all started and as I see the restoration of power in the surrounding towns and nothing happening in Millburn I am completely disgusted. I am sitting here in the cold with my children living like animals and whether she is elected or appointed, incompetent or merely unable it has become painfully clear yet again our mayor should not be in any position of authority. We rely on her to protect our interests and at no time is it more important than at a time of crisis and yet again she has failed miserably. She is utterly inept and has not lived up to her primary responsibility. Being mayor is more than just carrying around a pretty business card, it's not a hobby, it is serving your community and you mayor are are not qualified to serve frozen yogurt. This is a serious job and if you have one scintilla of integrity you will resign when this is over so we will at least have a fighting chance of getting someone with the skill and where with all to protect our interests. I am absolutely disgusted at your ineptitude and partially blame myself for being so complacent and letting someone like you remain in this place of authority for so long.

Waiting for the county to clear the trees since its their road...incredible.

We have a lot of able-bodied men at home right now who can't get to work. If the township doesn't do anything, the residents should pitch in to clear the trees. Bring out those STIHL, Husqvarnas and other dreaded chainsaws and let the downed tree massacre begin. Those JCPL trucks better be there to start repairing soon after the roads are cleared.

I was in Short Hills mall yesterday and the whole place was full of people looking for some electric juice for their digital toys. I wish I could teleport some of that energy to my home to run the heating system in my house so that my 3 year old doesn't have to wake up at 1 am and complain about the cold. Some of the areas of Millburn look completely normal and I wonder why no one is paying attention to at least restore power to the least affected areas. I mean, what happened to tackling the low hanging fruit kinda issues first to show some progress?

The town hasn't even asked for volunteers! Plenty of people would volunteer their services to help the community at this point. The town doesn't seem too concerned with peoples safety or sanity, considering the temps are going to go below freezing, nobody has power, people are lighting fires to stay warm, burning candles to provide light and not even a warning asking people to exercise caution. Just a reminder that if your fire alarm is hard wired and without battery backup it isn't working most likely.

IMM, agreed. I would think some shelter in town would be set up to combat the powerless town. The use of the buildings with generator power that sit empty at night is an idea. My suggestion to the Mayor is to open these buildings for people to get warm and sleep on the floor if necessary to beat the freezing temperatures at night. Although many may not use the option, the option should be there.

Imm/Binders/Earl/et al: Okay, so the town is not asking for volunteers. Time to self organize. If people are willing to put actions behind their words, we might actually be able to make a serious impact this weekend. Here's how I see it:
1) We need a list of tasks that we can triage and accomplish (WITHOUT undue safety risk or rule breaking!)
2) We need to identify the skills and tools that we have available
3) We need to identify a central meeting place from wherein we can get organized.
4) We need to make sure that as we tackle the problem we optimize for GAS! Carpool to work locations/good ol bicycles/walking etc.
5) We need to make sure we come armed with PB&J, water or whatever it takes to make it through the day so as to maximize the time we are committing instead of breaking away for food/nourishment.
Even if 5 people step up, that's enough to make a big dent. I have participated in many Habitat4Humanity efforts and its amazing how much you can get done in a day. Any takers? Are there any problems we are facing that we can solve ourselves as a community? Let's use our frustration/energy.

It's hard to tell if the utter lack of communication comes from the mayor being overwhelmed, incompetent, or too frightened to deal with her constituents. Whatever the reason, it doesn't work. The Township website is useless, her posts here are just as bad and the lack of any sound from the other council members is unacceptable. I have the sense that these folks are living in some 1950's genteel sense of what it means to hold public office and have no understanding of or interest in taking on the real work that the job entails. That being the case, they should step aside, whatever the blow to pride or ego may be, and let others actually run the town.

You may want to keep tabs on this. Last fall, the state Division of Rate Counsel, which is supposed to be the consumer advocate on utility matters, filed with the Board of Public Utilities a petition requesting that the Board direct JCP&L to file a base rate case under the belief that the Company is over earning based on the most recent financial and other relevant documents pertaining to JCP&L that are publicly available at this time. No idea of the status.

Two of us just went to town hall where we found the mayor and a township committee member. Here's the bottom line: according to them, JCPL says they do not have the manpower to do two things at once: work on the substation problem AND clear the trees away from the downed wires in preparation for restoration of power. So in Gkenwood, for instance, where not a branch has been picked up since Monday, we will have to wait for the power situation to be fixed and ThEN they' will start to clean up the trees and wires. The mayor and councilman seemed helpless to go over JcpL heads to a higher authority.

Thankful and encouraged that some areas are regaining power.

However, extremely concerned about safety in those areas with trees/wires on roads and homes, it appears these fall into the category of last on the list.

I personally witnessed two industrial tree teams assess a 100 year old tree on a wire over house for over an hour before leaving the area. We only hoped it was to return soon with JCPL counterparts. Neither have been seen in days.

JCPL, township reps and tree teams should be working collaboratively to triage areas of safety concern.

The work order of streets should be posted and transparent for all residents in community.

Clearly, after two hurricanes and one ice storm, all with major long term consequences to community there is a need for a Millburn/Short hills neighborhood team to act as resident advocates in the face of crisis.

I have lived in the Glenwood area for over 41 years. When I first moved in we had flooding and that was taken care of, but now it is extended outages every year and Glenwood seems to be the last to have power restored. A service truck from Ohio came onto Canterbury Lane around 1 pm today. I asked him if we were getting our power back today. I was told no. I asked if he knew when we would have power and I was told that he had "no idea". We are lucky that our homes were not completely destroyed and no one lost their life. I am greatful for this, but I don't understand why we cannot be told when power will be restored and when the
"town trees" will be removed. Services in town seem to be going down and the taxes keep going up.

Have you read or seen any of the comments above? You truly should be ashamed of yourself and the way in which you have treated, or should I say, ignored, your community. Our surrounding towns have been given constant information and their leaders have been visible, informative and encouraging. No one expects you to control JCP&L or magically remove trees from streets on your own, but you would be amazed what actual communication with your residents could do. Dr. Crisfield has been far more informative, and quite frankly more compassionate, than you have. I truly hope you consider resignation and making an apology to people of Millburn & Short Hills. Great idea, but Dr. Crisfield is ineligible. How about a serious write in candidate, like Dan Baer? If many of us vote for the same write in candidate, we could remove our ineffective "mayor" from office for good. Any suggestions? Matt Stewart perhaps?

That's a coincidence as Matt Stewart was my 2d choice. Great idea. I am sure Dan Baer would be great, but the 4-1 GOP majority [if Dan won] would aggressively stifle him.

I am sold....everyone should vote for Matt Stewart.
