Paper Mill is People's Choice By Far
The Millburn playhouse was voted the best theater in New Jersey to see a musical.

Theater-goers have voted, and the Paper Mill Playhouse was picked as a favorite in New Jersey by a landslide.
In the Fifth-Annual JerseyArts.com People's Choice Awards, the Millburn theater was voted New Jersey's Favorite Theater to See a Musical, garnering 3,122 votes out of a possible 4,200 public votes cast.
"Paper Mill Playhouse is both humbled and honored to receive the 2012 People's Choice Award for Favorite Place to see a Musical," Paper Mill Playhouse Managing Director Todd Schmidt said. "These awards are a gift from the audiences and students we serve throughout the state of New Jersey."
In the last few years Paper Mill has produced some of the most successful musicals, having the 25th Anniversary of 'Les Misérables' produced at the playhouse along with the Broadway box office record breaker 'Newsies.'
"Musicals are what Paper Mill Playhouse is renowned for and what our theater has been excelling at for almost 75 years,” Director of Press and Public Relations for the Paper Mill Playhouse said. “It is a true joy for us to be recognized for our world-class productions."
The winners were announced online last week at JerseyArts.com and via email to voters after nominations were sent out in November. Recipients will formally receive their awards in a ceremony at The Governor's Conference on Tourism, held March 20-22 in Atlantic City.
“The People’s Choice Awards pay tribute to the wonderful work done by New Jersey’s cultural community and the strength of its supporters,” said Director of Programs and Services at ArtPride New Jersey Foundation Jim Atkinson.
Discover Jersey Arts is a partnership between the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and ArtPride New Jersey Foundation to increase awareness of and participation in the arts in the Garden State.
Other participating organizations include the New Jersey Theatre Alliance, South Jersey Cultural Alliance, and New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism.

Problem is, a day out with the family to see "The Little Mermaid" will cost around $100 per person if not sitting in the nose bleed section.

why is that a problem ? with production costs, salaries and overhead the $80 or so for a ticket is still half of what you'd pay for NYC, not to mention lower cost dining options and parking. plus, the bundled packages for multiple shows bring down the cost per ticket by about 40%.

Perhaps spending $500 and up for a family day in Millburn isn't a problem for you. However, SOPAC two miles away has plays for children at $16 per person.
Paper Mill bundles are not worth the money, as there is generally one play per year, or less, that we have interest in seeing.
If the Paper Mill is unable to control costs and offer reasonable pricing for township residents, particularly with family shows, perhaps it should not receive any funding from the township. In fact, if I recall correctly, Millburn Township purchased the Paper Mill for $10 million. We own this theater.
