Paper Mill Welcomes Fansies to 'Newsies'

Fans got to meet members of the cast of the show as well as the cult classic film.

Sunday was big day for fans of “Newsies” – Disney’s 1992 box office flop that became a cult classic.

Hundreds of “Newsies” fans (aka Fansies) attended the special "Newsies" Fan Day reception, talk-back and performance on Sunday, Oct. 2, at Paper Mill Playhouse.

The Paper Mill Playhouse invited fans of the movie to a special performance that included a meet-and-greet of the actors revising the roles on stage in the world premier of the stage version.

An additional treat awaited them when several cast members and the director and choreographer from the movie were also on hand for pictures with fans and autographs.

“Tonight’s a special night for us,” said the Paper Mill’s Producing Artistic Director Mark Hoebee, when he introduced the movie cast and brought them on stage to join in the curtain call.

Having so many die-hard fans in the audience raised the already high level of excitement and energy in the theater as soon as the when the stunning three-story set appeared on stage. The crowd erupted into hoots, cheers and applause anytime the orchestra played the first few stanzas of their favorites songs by composer Alan Menken.

The event sold out weeks in advance, but hundreds of lucky fans had their childhood dreams come true.  Along with the entire stage cast, the following members of the original movie cast and creative team participated in the event: Gabriel Damon (Spot Conlon), Luke Edwards (Les Jacobs), Shon Greenblatt (Oscar Delancy), Arvie Lowe Jr. (Boots), David Moscow (Davey), David Sheinkoph (Morris Delancy), David Sidoni (Pie Eater), Kevin Stea (Swifty), David Moscow (Davey), Jack Feldman (Librettist), Ms Noni White (Screenwriter), Jeff Calhoun (Stage Director) and the film’s director and choreographer Mr. Kenny Ortega.  Newsies runs through Oct.16, only at Paper Mill Playhouse.
