Pedestrian Struck By Car on Main Street Hospitalized
Woman transported to hospital after being hit on Main Street in crosswalk this morning in downtown Millburn.
A 31-year-old woman was hospitalized this morning after being hit by a car in downtown Millburn while crossing the street, Millburn police said.
The woman, a Staten Island resident, was hit at the intersection of Millburn Avenue and Main Street around 8:50 a.m. by a 75-year-old Springfield woman, Captain Bernie Neuhaus said.
According to Neuhaus, the woman left Starbucks and crossed Main Street in the crosswalk, heading east, when she was hit by a 2012 Toyota Corolla.
She was transported to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston for non-life theatening injuries, police said.
The driver was issued a summons for failure to yield to a pedestrian in crosswalk.
According to police, weather was not a factor in the accident. Police have not released the names of those involved.
Millburn Volunteer First Aid Squad also responded.

That is a very dangerous intersection. A left turn should not be allowed off Millburn on the main.

No one seems to ever stop for people in crosswalks, despite the fact that it is the law. This is particularly the case on Wyoming Ave on the uncontrolled crosswalks. I wish motorists would yield more to pedestrians and/or the police would enforce the laws. Slow down!....

I couldn't agree with you more James. I say this all the time when I am near the crosswalk at Taylor Street leading into the park.

Every day I see cars blow right by the yellow pedestrian crossing signs and ignore the white-painted cross walk areas. It won't stop until the police (strongly) enforce the law with large fines...and insurance companies (heavily) penalize dangerous drivers.

Millburn Police should also check the timing of the lights and the crosswalks to make it safe for everyone. I think they are timed as if the traffic is two ways on Millburn Ave. I have waited on the corner for the flashing white man when clearly the cars had a red light. Then when it is white, you have very little time to cross! The same may be going on with crossing Main Street. I sure hope the victim has a full and speedy recovery.

If a white man is flashing, shouldn't that be considered a crime?

It is a heinous crime, GoodPig. What if a child saw the flashing white man? We need stricter laws to keep us safe.

Where I grew up, busy intersections had a red+yellow light signal in both direction that indicated it was time for all pedestrians to cross. Perhaps we could have a red in both directions which allows pedestrians to cross while no traffic is moving.

I have had several close calls running in that area. I now run elsewhere because of the potential danger. People need to slow down.

It's the busiest, most central intersection in town. Accidents happen. We don't need to turn the infrastructure upside down because of a careless driver who may have been distracted or otherwise.
