Police Arrest Kean Students in Scavenger Hunt

Millburn Police arrested two Kean University students who said they were playing a scavenger hunt game that involved taking as many house number signs from Short Hills as possible.

Officer Steve Nacim stopped a gray Jeep on with only one brake light and one tail light working on April 9. While talking to the students in the car, Nacim saw something in the backseat and asked the driver, Daniel Meader, 22, of Delran, N.J., to roll down the rear window.

That's when the officer saw a large sign for an address on Hobart Avenue and numerous other house number signs.

Meader and 20-year-old Steven Gill of Little Egg Harbor told Officer Steve Nacim that they were students involved in a scavenger hunt and in order to complete the game, they had to take as many address signs from Short Hills as they could.

They were released on their own recognizance pending a court date.

Police resturned some of the signs to the homes since they had street names attatched but some are just numbers, and Public Information Officer Capt. Michael Palardy said residents who are missing number signs can come and pick them up from police headquarters.
