Police Arrest One for Identity Theft

Officers continue to investigate two other incidents

 

Millburn police arrested one woman for credit fraud and are investigating several other incidents.

Tracy M. Clark, 23, of Jamaica, N.Y., was charged with credit card theft, impersonation, theft of identity and two counts of offenses involving false government documents.

Police responded to Saks Fifth Avenue at the Mall at Short Hills on Feb. 9 just after 5 p.m. on a report that a woman accused of credit card fraud was in custody at the loss prevention office, police said.

Police said Clark is accused of fraudulently using another person's identifying information to purchase three Gucci handbags at a combined value of $4,130.20.

On Feb. 10 at just after 3 p.m., police were notified by an Orange resident that her credit cards were fraudulently used to make purchases at the Mall at Short Hills.

Police said the person purchased $486.85 in merchandise from Gucci, $280 in merchandise from Nordstrom's and $3,000 in merchandise from Macy's.

Police said the victim reported her wallet stolen in Orange on Feb. 1 around 10:30 a.m. She also learned the fraudulent transactions took place on Feb. 1 between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., police said.

Also on Feb. 10, a Millburn resident reported just after 7:30 p.m. fraudulent purchases made on her account.

The purchases totaled $1,159.80 and were made over a two day period, police said. The victim told police she believes she dropped her debit/credit card after using a local ATM on Feb. 8.
