Police Blotter: Lots of Activity at The Mall

Black Friday was a busy day at The Mall at Short Hills, with the parking lot being at full capacity by 1 p.m. and sales being better than last year. It was also a busy day there for the Millburn Police Department, with officers responding to numerous crimes at the mall all day, mostly shoplifting incidents.

The following is a list of crimes from the Millburn Police Blotter from last week, including those Black Friday incidents at the mall:

  • SHOPLIFING:  On Friday, Nov. 25 at 10:01 a.m. Millburn Police  responded to Macy’s at The Mall at Short Hills on a report of shoplifting.  Patrol units met with Macy’s Loss Prevention personnel who said they saw one of their employees, 23-year-old Aaliyah Diggs of Newark under-ring 31-items for a customer later identified as 21-year-old Wahhed Wilkens also of Newark. The value of the clothing came to $1,835 and Diggs allegedly only charged $9.95.  Both men were arrested and charged with various shoplifting charges and released pending their court hearings.
  • SHOPLIFTING: On Friday, Nov. 25 at 12:37 p.m. Millburn Police responded to The Mall at Short Hills on a report of a shoplifting incident at Saks Fifth Avenue.  Patrol officers met with Saks Fifth Avenue Loss Prevention personnel who observed a youth conceal and exit the store without paying for a $95 hat.  The juvenile was arrested, processed and released to his mother. 
  • CRIMINAL MISCHIEF: On Friday, Nov. 25, at 1:54 p.m. Millburn Police responded to The Mall at Short Hills on a report of a criminal mischief report. The victim said she parked her black Lexus SUV in Parking Lot A at 6 a.m. When she returned to her vehicle at 1:54 p.m., someone had created a deep scratch in the side of the vehicle with an unknown tool.
  • CREDIT CARD FRAUD: On Friday, Nov. 25 at 7:07 p.m.  Millburn Police  responded to Macy’s at The Mall at Short Hills on a report of credit card fraud. The victim reported someone obtained her information and made miscellaneous fraudulent charges at various locations. 
  • VEHICLE BURGLARY: On Friday, Nov. 25 at 10:59 p.m. Millburn Police responded to The Mall at Short Hills on a theft from vehicle report. The victim said she parked her Cadillac Escalade in J Lot and someone entered the vehicle and removed a handbag with various personal items.  There was no sign of forcible entry into the vehicle.
  • SHOPLIFTING: On Saturday, Nov. 26 at 4:17 p.m. Millburn Police responded to Nordstrom at The Mall at Short Hills on a shoplifting incident. Patrol units met with Nordstrom Loss Prevention who were detaining 21-year-old Maria Antimisiaris and 18-year-old Maria Leal of Lakewood for attempting to conceal jewelry and exit the store. Antimaris was arrested for attempting to steal $60 worth of jewelry and Leal was arrested for attempting to steal a $26 pair of earrings. Both were released pending court hearings.
  • THEFT: On Saturday, Nov.26, at 6:38 p.m. a Newark woman reported that her wallet was stolen from her purse in The Mall at Short Hills.  The wallet was later found in a men’s bathroom at the Mall, missing a debit card and $17 in cash. Further investigation found fraudulent use of the credit card at Hollister, also located at The Mall at Short Hills.
  • VEHICLE BURGLARY: On Nov. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 8:09 p.m., a Meadowbrook Road resident reported that between 6 p.m. on Nov. 19 2011 and 10 a.m. on Nov. 20, someone entered her unlocked Acura and removed the vehicle's registration, $50 in cash, and the owner’s manual.
  • SHOPLIFTING: On Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 12:28 p.m., the Millburn Police Department responded to Neiman Marcus at The Mall at Short Hills on a report of a shoplifting incident. Police found the Neiman Marcus Loss Prevention was detaining 24-year-old Marla Fuhrer of West Orange for allegedly attempting to conceal a $195 perfume in her 18-month-old son’s stroller. Fuhrer was arrested, transported to the Millburn Police Department for processing and released pending her court hearing.
