Police: Pair Cons Millburn Resident, Burglarize Home

Man and woman allegedly distracted Main Street homeowner by soliciting roof repairs.

Millburn police are asking for the public's help in identifying a couple believed to be involved in a burglary at a Main Street residence last Friday afternoon, officials said.

According to police, the man rang the doorbell of a Main Street home inquiring about making roof repairs to the residence at about 2 p.m. on Feb. 15.

The man convinced the resident to let him in the house to show where the home needed repairs, police said.

The resident told police, the man let a woman in the house and the three continued speaking about repairs.

While the woman distracted the resident, her partner went into the rest of the house and stole items, police said. Police have not released items stolen from the home.

The two left the house in a small white SUV, police said.

The resident described the man as white, between 35 and 45 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 inches and wearing blue jeans and blue plaid shirt, police said.

The woman was described as white, about 5-foot-6 inches tall and had blonde hair.

Millburn police encourage residents to be wary of letting people they don’t know into their homes.

Anyone who has information or can identify the suspects is asked to contact the Millburn Police Detective Bureau at (973)-564-7017.

is this a rental ? It would help understand how someone could get in without any prior meeting or appointment scheduled.

This sounds to me like a low impact home invasion. Not to belittle these events, but devoting an article to such vagaries is a waste. This should have been a blurb.

A low impact home invasion? What exactly is that. Invasion is an invasion. Just because no blood was shed doesn't make it news worthy? Luckily the elderly man wasn't injured and this article gives a heads up to all who read it so they can be better prepared. If is was your house Martin, I'm sure you would want all the help you could get.

What is a low impact home invasion? Why would it be a rental? Where is the sensitivity that one of your neighbors/ townspeople was taken advantage of. DS and Marrin Wright stop being so pompous. Every resident and every home in this town is important!

This scam is as old as the hills. Senior citizens seem to fall for it, for some reason, probably because the nice young man and his pretty lady friend are so polite and they offer such a sweet deal on roof repair that it would be foolish to pass it up.

Amazing! Low Impact? If it was your elderly father or mother would you consider it a low impact? Waste? What if someone tried to rob you MW would you be satisfied with a blurb? Is it a waste to let others in the township to know these things are going on around them so maybe they don’t become a victim or their neighbors of theft regardless if they rent (DS) or if they have been a Homeowner maybe before you even heard of Millburn Township!
