Monday was a school day for Hartshorn and Glenwood, where students are making up two extra snow days after the October snowstorm, and today will see the rest of Millburn's students back in class.

While January is the beginning of a new year and the march toward midterms for older students, it's also the month when the district starts to make plans for its youngest students, as well.

Kindergarten Registration for 2012-2013 will take place during later this month, in the weeks of January 23 and January 30. There will be two days for registration at each of the elementary schools during those two weeks.

Please follow the schedule below to register your child at your elementary school:

Deerfield: Monday, Jan. 23, and Wednesday, Feb. 1, 9-11 a.m.

Glenwood: Tuesday, Jan. 24, and Thursday, Feb. 2, 9-11 a.m.

Hartshorn: Wednesday, Jan. 25, and Friday, Feb. 3, 9-11 a.m.

South Mountain: Thursday, Jan. 26, and Monday, Jan. 30, 9-11 a.m.

Wyoming: Friday, Jan. 27, and Tuesday, Jan. 31, 9-11 a.m.

Parents with kindergarten-age children will be able to register them for school in January.

In order to enter Kindergarten, children must be five years old on or before October 1, 2012, and there are no exceptions to this policy. Kindergarten is a full day of school.

For Kindergarten Registration, parents/guardians must register in person at the school their child will be attending. An official, original birth certificate must be shown during registration. Three proofs of residency are also required: the lease, deed or contract for your home, tax bills and/or two current utility bills, or other legal mail received by you at the address you provide as your residence. Please bring the original of each of these documents, along with two copies of each. You must also provide a copy of your child’s current immunization and health record for the school nurse.

Registration and other required forms will be available on the Millburn Schools’ website at www.millburn.org after January 3, 2012.

Any families with a signed house contract or lease who will be moving into the township may also register all of their school-aged children on these registration dates. Children will not be allowed to attend school until all residency documents have been finalized. Families should make every effort to register their children during the weeks of January 23 and 30. If it is not possible to register on one of these days, parents should contact Nancy Dries, at 973-376-3600, x163, to make an appointment to register on Monday, Feb. 6 or Tuesday, Feb. 7 (hours TBA). Children do not need to accompany the parent for registration. In the spring, parents of kindergarten 2012 students will be invited to attend an orientation meeting, and the children will be invited to a special Kindergarten visitation day at each school.
