Public Hearing on Dispatchers Moved to October
The committee will not be ready in time for the Sept. 24 meeting.
At the end of this week's Township Committee meeting, the committee members decided to push the public hearing and presentation about Livingston taking over the police dispatch to the meeting on Oct. 9.
Committee members Ted Bourke and Thomas McDermott of the subcommittee researching the issue, said they are still waiting on information from Livingston before a complete report can be presented.
"We can give an update next meeting," Bourke said.
The committee said the original proposed move date, Jan. 1, 2013, was "flexible."
Bourke explained the subcommittee still needs to address a few issues and the committee wasn't close to voting on any action.
Since the proposed shared services was announced at the end of July, dispatchers, police and local groups have voiced their opinion on the Patch:
- The dispatchers released a petition to the public on Wednesday.
- The PBA voiced their opinion in a four page letter.
- The Short Hills Association wrote a letter to the editor last month.

The committee said the original proposed move date, Jan. 1, 2013, was "flexible." Wow flexible unless it was your job you were loosing... Even if this is a good idea what a heartless comment to say about good people.

I'd like to know how the township committee or Tim Gordon can make a fair presentation without actually knowing day to day operations at the MPD.

As a 40 year member of the Millburn Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad I feel this is a dangerous move for the residents and those going through our town in need of our services. The llife we save may be yours!

because Tim Gordon and his sidekick Mike Robert's think they know everything and long after they retire we will be picking up the pieces.

So now the committee admits that there was even a "move date" . It just shows that the committee we elected in to run the town does not have the residents safety in their best interest. I surely hope that they will never have the need of the local authorities since they are trying to singly destroy them! SHAME ON YOU! You will never have my vote again!

I would urge town members to fight against the dispatch transfer. I am a former Millburn resident and family member of law enforcement past and present in your community. I currently live in another state which has within the last year required one central dispatch for county and city 911 as required by recent state law. This has been disastrous for communication between departments and jurisdictions and has greatly compromised public and officer safety.
