Pubs Pouring 'FU Sandy' Draft for Hurricane Victims

All proceeds from merchandise and beer sales benefit storm charities.

Pub dwellers can raise a pint and raise money for superstorm Sandy victims with the debut of FU Sandy draft.

The hybrid white ale (the FU stands for Forever Unloved, of course) is a special brew created by New Jersey's own Flying Fish Brewing Co. All proceeds are dedicated to Sandy-related charities, and Flying Fish hopes to raise at least $50,000 from beer and merchandise sales.

Flying Fish founder Gene Muller said the brewery "knew immediately that we wanted to do something to help" after Sandy struck, the Huffington Post reports. "Every single aspect of this beer, from the man-hours spent brewing it to the hops used to season it to the kegs that will contain it, has been donated so every cent brought in goes to superstorm Sandy victims," Muller said.

Twenty-two pubs throughout the region are now pouring the brew, described as a "50/50 blend of Two Row Pale Malt and American White Wheat. It is hopped with experimental hop ADHA 483, donated by the American Dwarf Hop Association, which has never been used in a beer before this one."

Flying Fish will soon have charitable merchandise available on its website. To grab a pint at a local pub, visit one of the locations below. But it's best to call ahead first as FU Sandy is going fast!

My daughter and I gave 60billion dollars to the cause. Can't afford to spend any money on booze.

The Sandy Bill was nothing but pork. NJ got $50 million, the other $59.5 Billion went to BS projects.

That may be true Doug, but i aint giving anymore to anybody. It is already forceably robbed from me by the government and doled out. I am fighting to keep every penny for my family and it is getting harder. After everyone is done with my paycheck i have on 50% left to pay my property taxes, food, mortgage, and i don't make much. I need a freaking bail out. Someone give me some money!

I think it's an excellent way to keep that devastating storm from being forgotten, help our neighbours and show our local shopkeepers we support them. With an excellent sense of humor to boot!

Nice article but aren't we in Somerset County. I did not see one pub listed where we can try it. I would help but I'm not driving to drink beer.

I second Mark's question! I was hoping to "donate" this weekend. Any business in Somerset Hills participates??? Seriously...

I'll bet there are quite a few ladies named Sandy that will be receiving a complimentary glass from their exes. Maybe some will get a full set :).

Are you referring to the name, or the beer itself?

The name--it's not even funny. The only saving grace is they SAY all proceeds go to Sandy-related charities.....hope someone is keeping track of that FU.

I have to agree with you on that one, Liberty. Having sustained my own Sandy damages, I’m a little reluctant to part with my funds at this time—especially if the beer didn’t taste good.

Hopefully, all monies raised will benefit those truly in need.

It's really not that clever. If it was something like "Sandy Blows", I might think it was funny and order one. This is just crass for the sake of drawing attention.
