Question of the Week: What Paper Mill Play Do You Want to See?

Thoughts are already on next season at the playhouse, but what do you want to see the most?

Everyone has their favorite Paper Mill Playhouse production, and each season brings more favorites.

There are two performances remaining in the 2010-11 season with "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" opening soon and "Curtains" to follow. But the playhouse also is looking ahead to the 2011-12 season.

Last month Paper Mill officials announced the five productions for that season, which is highlighted with the new musical adaptation of Disney's "Newsies." Paper Mill will be the first theater to host the new production, as it was with "High School Musical" a few seasons ago.

Also coming next season are Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," "Boeing Boeing," "Damn Yankees" and "Once on this Island."

What production are you looking forward to next season at Paper Mill?

Last Week

Last week we asked you about the state aid the Millburn School District will receive in the 2011-12 budget. The district is due to receive approximately $760,000. Of those polled, 59.3 percent said the money should be used to close the gap the district faces between expenses and revenue and prevent further cuts and 18.8 percent said the money should be used to keep the tax increase below 2 percent.

Can you please bring Aida? Or Dr Jerkyll and Mr Hyde? Or Rent?
Or are they too ambitious productions for Paper Mill?

Kids loved High School Musical!!

The current season has been the best in many years. Unfortunately the upcoming season looks terribly dull. What an unfortunate step back they are taking.

I'd agree... they really did a phenomenal job with "Hairspray", "Spelling Bee", and of course "Les Mis" (but that one goes without saying).
Clearly this season of big-name musicals has been doing so great for them (critically and financially), so I'm a little unsure why Paper Mill chose smaller musicals like "...Boeing" and "White Christmas" as some of next year's headliners.
I'm most excited for "Once On This Island" and "Damn Yankees", and I think the theater can do a really great job with those. And I think "Newsies" will be a nice premiere as well.
I just wish they could have chosen some more big name musicals (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Rent, In the Heights, Fiddler, Grease, just to name a few) for next season.

How about a drama? I have been very disappointed with the musicals in years past. Think of the massive cost savings by putting on a wonderfully acted drama....House of Blue Leaves, e.g.

The dumbing down of Broadway [Les Miz, Miss Saigon and Cats, to name a few] should not apply to the Paper Mill.
