Resident Victim of Internet Fraud

Also, police make arrests at the mall for credit card fraud and shoplifting.

 

Police are investigating an apparent Internet fraud incident where a township resident was the victim.

The resident reported on Feb. 22 he received a check for $2,950 and was told to send $1,300 to a Texas address via Western Union. The victim believe he had started a business relationship with a Texas-based company and his $1,300.00 was going to cover shipping costs for items that he was to receive, police said. Several days later the victim learned that the check he received was bad.

Police Make Arrests at the Mall

The Millburn police made shoplifting and credit card fraud arrests at the Mall at Short Hills last week.

On Sunday, police arrested Deanna Moore, 20, of Upper Darby, Penn. for allegedly using a stolen credit card to obtain a Gucci handbag valued at $1,016.50 at Saks Fifth Avenue. Store staff contacted the cardholder after suspicions were raised. The woman discovered that her wallet was missing from her purse because of the call. Moore was charged with fraudulent use of credit cards and receiving stolen property.

Detectives continuing their investigation into instances of reported credit card frauds that occurred at the mall on Feb. 22 and filed additional charges on Moore. Police said on that date Moore fraudulently used someone else's credit card to obtain merchandise valued at $440 from Bebe and $1,428.45 from Saks Fifth Avenue. She was charged with two counts each of credit card theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, forgery and theft of identity.

On Saturday, police arrested Lauren A. Green, 26, of New York, was arrested and charged with shoplifting for an incident at Neiman Marcus. She is accused of concealing nine articles of clothing with a combined value of $2,605.00 in her handbag and exiting the store.

Police arrested Koshemah S. Sumter, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile, both of Newark, on Feb. 23 and charged each with shoplifting and receiving stolen property for an incident at Bloomingdale's.

Police said the juvenile selected a jacket valued at $295.00 and handed it to Sumter, who concealed it under her own jacket and then exited the store. Further, Sumter had in her possession stolen merchandise from Hollister and Macy's valued at $371, police said. The juvenile is accused of having in her possession stolen merchandise from Hollister and Macy's in the amount of $758.50.
