Round the Clock PATH Service Restored
The Port Authority announced the restoration of 24/7 service. The Hoboken-WTC line remains suspended for now.
For the first time since Hurricane Sandy last fall, PATH service will be 24/7, according to an announcement from the Port Authority on Wednesday morning.
As of Wednesday night, PATH trains will again be running between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
The round the clock service has been restored on the Hoboken to 33rd Street line, Newark to World Trade Center Line and the Journal Square to 33rd Street line.
Service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center remains suspended for now and could take at least another month.
"Currently, the Port Authority is awaiting delivery of key switch and signal parts from a third-party manufacturer," the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey stated in its press release on Wednesday.
The Hoboken PATH station sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Sandy and equipment of multiple decades old was completely destroyed.
"The agency expects delivery of the parts in late February," according to the announcement, "crews will then install the parts and conduct extensive safety tests before PATH can resume service between Hoboken and World Trade Center."
PATH service was restored in Hoboken in mid-December. Since the storm, trains have been running between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. every day.

Anyone wonder why the Hoboken equipment for the WTC line is decades old? Why wasn't it replaced after 9/11 while the PATH to WTC was out of commission for years?

The WTC line was out of commission for exactly a year but only the stretch between the WTC and Exchange Place was affected. The trains still ran to Newport and Grove Street.

LATE FEBRUARY???? Wow that is really awful news. I moved to Hoboken in the fall specifically to reduce my commute to lower Manhattan and it's been a nightmare. Right now the only direct route to the district is NY Waterways ferry at quadruple the cost of the PATH. But hey, at least their service is terrible.

About a year ago when Hoboken was recognized as the city in which the highest percentage of citizens use public transportation the Zimmer bloggers heaped tons of praise on Dawn as if she had ANYTHING to do with it--- I wonder now why Dawn is taking so much time to get PATH service back an operating to the WTC ;-)

CG- The Hop is a city provided form of public transportation and one that I've utilized many times. I will definitely continue to praise when it's appropriate.
I don't recall anyone praising the mayor for the PATH or Light Rail or Buses, so maybe you can remind me.
What I find troubling is that anyone thinks the Hoboken - WTC train should have been put before any of the other 3 lines. Logically speaking, getting people from Newark into the city as well as getting people from JC into the city & Hoboken into 33rd street (our busiest) should have been prioritized over putting a second train line anywhere.
The only station that has access to WTC & 33rd are JSQ & Grove because they are crossover stations. No standalones have 2 lines running.

XJS- calling the Crosstown Bus (initiated back in the 80's) "The Hop" may be one way of being innovative ;-) but its been around for decades. The routes have always changed to accommodate different residential trends.

Saying it has had different routes is nice way to ignore that for the first time it had three routes, a much expanded program.

CG- There was one crosstown bus route at a time. Now we have 3 going at all times (although part of the day 1 is the senior shuttle). That sounds like 3 times the service as in the past. I've lived in Hoboken for over 15 years and I never used a crosstown shuttle until the Hop came around and was convenient.
Do you have facts to the contrary?

Yet another untruth authored by the curiously irrelevant political op masquerading as an ordinary citizen. The Hop has not been around for years. Many years ago, a shuttle bus was started on a very limited basis to provide seniors a way with getting to Washington Street from the west side of town. It had the Mayor's name emblazoned on its side (Courtesy of) and the paint changed with every new mayor. That old relic is a far cry from the Hop, as you well know, but just cant stomach giving any credit to the current Mayor. But it is fun to watch you sweat, twist, spew and froth as you pen your venom.
