Several Homes Burglarized Since Thursday
Some $15,000 in jewelry and electronics taken from a Millburn home; three burglaries in Short Hills with two at apartment complex.
Several home burglaries occurred between last Thursday and early this morning with one home losing $15,000 in jewelry and electronics to the thieves.
A woman who lives on Norwood Terrace reported to police that sometime while she was gone between 2 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, someone broke into her home by smashing a window in back of her house.
The house was ransacked and the perpetrator or perpetrators took more than $15,000 in jewelry and electronics.
On Sunday, at 8:44 p.m., Millburn police responded to a home on Nottingham on a report of a burglar alarm going off. They found a smashed window and searched the home and determined that whoever broke the window never made it inside the home.
Last night and early this morning, Millburn police responded twice to the Short Hills Circle Apartments on burglary reports.
On Monday night, police were called to the apartments on a report that someone had climbed inside an apartment through a kitchen window and stolen a laptop computer. Residents said the burglary took place sometime between 2 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Police were called back out to the Short Hills Circle Apartments at 3:20 a.m., when residents told officers that sometime between 6 a.m. on Monday (yesterday) and 3:20 a.m. today, someone entered the apartment through a window, but residents did not think anything was stolen.

Broken windows and alarms this is getting worse. What have the police said about this? They blame vicitms for car thefts but cant do that with broken windows. I hope they does something. Does the town council care at all? Cops need to catch someone or we need to get new cops.

to deter, reduce or discourage home break ins i would recommend hiring private motorized security.neighborhood/block associations would pool their finances to defray the cost of securing a particular zone or neighborhood.
the peace of mind and reduction in home break ins would be well worth the expense.

The police could do their job (which they do very well) patrolling neighborhoods more if they didn't have to spend so much time at the SH Mall with shoplifters, etc. The Mall should hire their own security/private police to deal with criminals and leave our police to deal with town patrol and break-in issues.

They do have their own security but there is a limit to what private security can do. when it comes to making arrests you need the real police.

This is really unbelievable. Two of these homes were broken into in the afternoon!! I have to say, I am very scared and no longer feel safe in this town. Something needs to be done. We are an easy, wealthy target and this will keep happening, and worsening until we fight back!
Perhaps good ole neighborhood watches with signage? Better home lighting? Arming your alarm systems at all times (even when you are home during the day!).
And, we need video surveillance in public areas as a deterrent. We need to show these thugs that MSH is not going to sit by and let this happen!
It is no longer just people who forget to lock their cars.
