Township to Limit Parking Near Short Hills Train Station
Committee introduces new ordinance to limit parking on Oak Hill Road, Oakview Terrace and Woodland Road to cut down on commuter parking on Short Hills roads.
The Millburn Township Committee introduced a new ordinance at Tuesday night's meeting to limit parking on three streets near the Short Hills train station.
The restricted parking would cut down on commuter parking during the day on the residential streets.
The ordinance would limit parking to three hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on:
- Oak Hill Road
- Oakview Terrace
- Woodland Road, between Ridge Terrace and Wellinton Terrace
The committee said the parking limitation would address the complaints of residents and the needs of late commuters.
A public hearing on the proposed ordinance is scheduled for April 2.

There is such short-sightedness in our leadership. Have you noticed that during the Millburn parking deck construction, there has been tremendous demand for the Short Hills valet service? So they built a deck in Millburn when it turns out the demand is actually at the Short Hills station where the spaces are not well-configured. When the deck is finished I guess the valet service will end and those people will have to drive to Millburn. So much for a solution to the commuter parking situation. Did they even study where the demand was coming from?

Actually it shows the laziness of people. The permit spots on Chatham down closer to the Glenwood school typically remain unused while everyone crowds the valet.

You mean the 8 spots at the coal chute? The valets seem to be parking 30 or more cars a day. If people were "lazy" there would be no need to limit parking on the streets in this article, which are even further away from the station. Demand exceeds supply at the SH station but the parking garage is being built in Millburn and I am unaware of any efforts being made at SH, such as by repaining the spots more efficiently or creating some head-in parking on Chatham road (without cutting down trees).

No. The spots well past the coal chute.

Are you talking about the all-day-for-$5 spots, which are not an option for commuter permit holders?

No. There are permit spots both before and after the meter spots.

I can see why someone would rather use the valet than add such a long walk in the winter so long as the valet is there. The point is that there is more demand than supply at SH, which is why the streets mentioned in the article (which are even further away than the ones you are talking about) are now being restricted.
