Two Newcomers Join Millburn School Board
Incumbent Eric Siegel reelected to serve with Raymond Wong and Rupali Wadhwa, early results say.
According to early results, Millburn-Short Hills residents appeared to have elected two newcomers, Dr. Rupali Wadhwa and Raymond Wong, along with incumbent Dr. Eric Siegel, to serve on the Millburn Board of Education in Tuesday’s election.
According to the County Clerk's totals with 13 of the 16 districts reporting, Siegel garnered the most votes of all the candidates, followed by Wadhwa then Wong.
Board members Mark Zucker and Sam Levy did not run for reelection leaving the four candidates vying for the three seats.
With about 81 percent of precincts reporting, unofficial returns:

Siegel, incumbent, ran on the platform that he was an independent thinker and community leader.
Wong said he would bring his experience in engineering and running a Fortune 500 company to the board.
Wadhwa campaigned her main focus was to bring transparency to the board.

For those wondering about the effect of moving the School Board elections to November, the total number of votes cast this year (according to the Essex County Clerk's website) was 11,285. In the last 5 years the total number of votes cast has been as high as 7,036 and as low as 2860. Clearly moving the election has had the desired effect of greater voter turnout. It will be interesting to see what happens in a non-presidential election year.
