Millburn Driver Issued Summonses for Hitting Bicyclist
Millburn Police issued summonses to the driver of an SUV that hit a 30-year-old Maplewood resident last week.
Millburn police have issued a summons to a 37-year-old Millburn man as a result of last week’s Millburn Avenue hit-and-run accident involving an SUV and bicyclist.
The driver, Marc Lombardy, was issued summonses for careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident, Millburn police said.
According to police, the Maplewood bicyclist, Johnathon Cain, 30, was struck Wednesday around 10 a.m. as Lombardy made a right-hand turn onto Wyoming Avenue from Millburn Avenue.
Cain told police, he managed to jump off his bicycle after it was hit, avoiding any injuries. Millburn’s First Aid Squad responded to the accident and released Cain after a brief examination.
A police officer on the scene said he was given the license plate number of the SUV from a witness and traced the vehicle back to Lesile Lombardy, of Millburn.
Police went to the home, left voice messages and a note on the front door.
Lombardy showed up at the Millburn Police Station at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon.
He told police he was making a right turn at a green light onto Wyoming Avenue and heard a loud thump.
According to Lombardy, he stopped after the accident and Cain cursed and screamed, telling Lombardy to leave. Lombardy told police Cain didn't seem hurt so he drove away to avoid confrontation.
Cain told police, "The guy in the SUV said he had the right of way. I said you just hit me dude, I'm calling the cops and he took off."
Police discovered scratch marks on the front passenger side of the SUV as well as the passenger door consistent with marks from the handle bars of Cain bicycle, police said.

I have to wonder whether "Marc" with a "c" posed as one of the virulently anti-bike rider contributors in the original posting. One or more of those voices sounded way too defensive about the actions & omissions of the hit & run SUV driver, whom we now all know as Marc Lombardy. Interesting that he had to be tracked down by police despite being local & despite being within the consciousness range of the Millburn Patch discussion. Millburn police/municipal court: what about community service for ML?

Why are we still hearing about this incident? Poor Cain got some bruises and was obviously enraged thus dishonest in the report about what took place. Patch has been on this story's tail as if jack the ripper was roaming

It's obviously of interest to people, based on the number of responses on the other thread, understandable given the number of cyclists and the density of traffic around here. If it really bugs you to read about it, you could stop reading the articles that pertain to the incident... or not waste your time responding... My guess is Patch is just responding to the interest, which I think is a big part of what they're supposed to do, as a community-based news service, no?

Local cyclists tend to be arrogant, rude and hog the road. They are vehicals just as cars and need to follow the rules of the road to insure everyones safety.
It is a blessing this cyclist was not hurt, other than his ego... cyclists should watch their manners as they will always be the loser in bike vs car incidents.

Time to take a lesson from the Dutch I think. Amsterdam is far more crowed than we are. Support Bike lanes!
