Glasses and hard rock teamed up on Saturday for the second annual Kids Rock for Vision concert to raise money for New Eyes for the Needy.

The concert, held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Summit, featured young musicians from the area strumming power chords and wailing in the vein of Axel Rose for a crowd of friends, family and rock enthusiasts.

"It's just an awesome time to spend with your friends and family listening to local bands," said Sam Taggart, a senior at Morristown Beard and chair of the event. "Last year we raised almost $8,000 and I had no idea we could do so much for an organization with just a concert."

This year, with the addition of more bands, the concert brought in $8,701, nearly a $1,000 increase from last year, according to Sam Taggart's father, Peter, who is a board member of New Eyes for the Needy.

"I'm really proud of the work that all of the kids have done on the concert," Peter Taggart, a Summit resident, said. " It just seemed like a great meshing of ideas. We have some wonderful talent that's always willing to play and if you can take that talent and create a venue where they can provide entertainment to benefit a charity, that's a wonderful thing."
