The hearing on the proposed Stop and Shop, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 17, is now set for the Jan. 28 Zoning Board Meeting.

According to the Millburn-Short Hills organization Residents for Traffic Safety, the Zoning Board's traffic consultant will question Stop and Shop's traffic expert.

The store is unnecessary and more important will severely conjest that part western part of millburn ave. Presently the traffic on Morris ave heading south towards Millburn Ave backs up and is already a problem. Adding a store like that on Millburn would cause all sorts of congestion and safety issues. Definitely not a good idea I hope the board puts safety ahead of tax revenues.

how long is this town going to allow an eyesore to sit there?. It degrades real estate values, is ugly and these issues are truly non-issues and you are being played by certain interest groups that want to keep the competition away.
I am shocked the local residents, who will be the beneficiaries of this store don't see through the ruse.

Eyesore - Really..."eyesore"? The L&T property doesn't look much different today than when L&T inhabited the building. And if it is then perhaps the owners ought to clean it up! Degrades real estate values - How does an empty building degrade real estate values than the expected tidal wave of traffic? Non-issues - traffic jams, lower home values...those are "non-issues"? Being played by certain interest groups - The most vocal group has been residents in the surrounding neighborhoods will be directly impacted by this monstrosity! Want to keep the competition away - Of course other supermarkets in the area do, and why wouldn't they and why shouldn't they have a voice? They pay taxes too! Local residents will be the beneficiaries of the store - How exactly? With crushing traffic, and lower home values? And is driving less than 1/4 mile further for groceries that much of an inconvenience?! "Ruse" - How is being concerned about a threat to traffic conditions and home values a ruse? Which is it...you don't live in the neighborhoods that will be directly impacted...you think driving an additional 8th to a quarter mile further for groceries is a huge inconvenience...or you don't care about traffic congestion on THE major road running through our town?

Can you imagine an additional 6,000 vehicles on Millburn Avenue EVERY DAY? Add to that nightmare an additional 30 - 50 delivery trucks parking on the side streets while waiting for an available loading bay. You will not like your town if this store opens and the "eyesore" will dramatically reduce your home values. Are these results part of the benefits you anticipate?

There are those who don't live near it and don't understand the impact on traffic volume and safety. Then there are those who live near it and understand what the impact will be.
The problem is that the former far outnumbers the latter.

This super store is an inappropriate business for this location. The over 6,000 cars that Stop and Shop predicts will enter this site everyday will completely overwhelm Millburn Avenue. Overflow traffic will be spilling into our neighbor streets causing more safety concerns especially for our children. Also 70 foot trucks will have difficulty making the turn into the Millburn Avenue loading dock location causing yet more traffic congestion. There are still many residents who do not understand that Millburn Township will be left with all of the problems this super store will bring. We will receive all the problems and receive none of the benefits especially since ALL REVENUES will go to Springfield and Union County. This property is located entirely in Springfield yet we are stuck with the main entrance being located on Millburn Avenue. This store and the problems it will bring will certainly degrade our house values as well. I urge all town residents to attend the Zoning Board meeting since this business impacts us all. Yes, it would be great to see that property developed in an appropriate way, but we do not need another super market.
