5 Cars: Video Reviews By Auto Experts

We're changing things up this week and letting experts come into your livingrooms via video and tell you what the car can and cannot do and whether that showroom "beauty" is really a beast. Today's video reviews start with the 2013 Chevrolet Traverse, brought to you by Cars.com. The car is available locally at Konner Chevrolet, 950 Bloomfield Ave. in West Caldwell. 5 Cars: Muscle Cars for the Car Enthusiast

There's nothing like the open road, a powerful car and a beautiful Spring day.

This week's 5 Cars suggests grabbing a muscle car. What's that? According to Merriam-Webster, it's one of "a group of American-made two-door sports coupes with powerful engines designed for high-performance driving." We're talking a huge, honkin' V6 or V8 engine, rear-wheel drive, something you'd imagine Fonzie driving in a drag race. Best of all, a muscle car can make its driver look like she or he shouldn't be messed with: These powerful, though fairly inexpensive, vehicles can make you look and feel tougher, stronger, sexier and richer than you probably are. You know, three grand makes for a tidy down payment... And after dealing with the IRS, feeling tough while being thrifty may be exactly what the doctor ordered. 1. 2014 Ford Mustang…

The Evolution of the American Deli in Millburn-Short Hills

EVO Delicacies opens in town to bring a cross between a gourmet food shop and deli with a Mediterranean style.

When two guys from New Jersey with almost 30 years of combined experience as chefs looked to open a restaurant in Short Hills, they decided on a deli but with a Mediterranean flare — taking the typical deli to the next level. "I like to tell people it's the evolution of what an American style deli is," co-owner Alex Gomes said.  Gomes, 31, of Caldwell, and his business partner Jose Nolasco, 27, of Kennilworth, opened EVO Delicacies on April 15 to bring a European-style store to Short Hills. The deli, located at 40 Chatham Road in Short Hills, is a cross between a gourmet food shop and deli with Mediterranean style cheeses and meats, most of which are locally made.  Customers can still stop in for what they would expect from a normal deli…

I like this shop so far! They do need to also stock more "normal" things (such as 20 ounce bottles of iced tea and soda, Tropicana orange juice NOT from concentrate, etc). Not only for the adults, but soon it will be summer and kids will park their bikes outside and stop in for a drink, only to find little bottles of gourmet juice. Also, watch pricing on some items. Do they make hot pressed …   more ›

Bow Tie Cinemas Agrees to Purchase Clearview

Cablevision sells 41 venues to Ridgefield, Conn. chain.

Bow Tie Cinemas of Ridgefield, Conn. announced it has purchased 41 Clearview Cinema theaters from Cablevision, a published report said Monday. With the acquisition, which will make Bow Tie the nation’s number 8 exhibition company, Bow Tie vows to pay for “key upgrades that are designed to enhance the movie-going experience,” including digital and 3D projection, according to a report on the website Deadline.com. Welp, I took advantage of the discounted tickets and definitely the free Tuesday night movies during the summer months. I really can't see paying full price for a movie now especially since I haven't seen a good movie since Forest Gump. Time to do some shopping.   more ›

JCP&L Rate Hike Request Earns Criticism, Some Praise

Final hearing on a 4.1 percent increase for state's second largest utility.

The sixth and final hearing on a request for a rate increase by the state’s second largest utility company met with a mix of praise and criticism for Jersey Central Power & Light at Freehold Township’s Town Hall on April 24. JCP&L, fresh off widespread criticism for its handling of superstorm Sandy and the nor’easter that followed, is seeking a 4.1 percent increase in the rates it charges its 1.1 million customers – many of whom were without power for up to two weeks after this winter’s storms. The Morristown-based company is seeking to recoup the $630 million it spent on repairs following Sandy. It has petitioned the state regulatory board — the Board of Public Utilities — which has held hearings throughout JCP&L’s coverage area since the…
