Blake Udland, Cross Country It's hard to feel happier for anyone than Udland right now, who won the sectional championship on Saturday. His brothers are two of the best cross country runners in Millburn history, and the youngest Udland was injured last season during sections and earlier this season. There's a very deep field at the Group 3 championships and of course at the Tournament of Champions, so Udland picked the right week to win his first major race. Courtney Brosnan, Girls Soccer It has been said that one of the most difficult things to do in sports is to defend a penalty kick. …
Blake Udland, Cross Country You didn't think you were going to get through the fall without hearing the name Udland did you? Millburn's young runner finished third in the county championship on Friday at Brookdale Park. Udland ran a 15:43. Sophia Gizzi, Field Hockey Gizzi scored the winning goal in overtime against the Cranford Cougars on Thursday and propelled the locals into the second round for the first time since 2005. Miller Minutes Just like that the fall regular season is coming to an end and the postseason is revving up. Both soccer teams received very good seeds in their tournaments…
Millburn's girls doubles teams When you consider the fact Millburn had to win back-to-back 3-2 matches in the Group 3 championships and the doubles teams were both unbeaten in those match, they've been the most valuable part of Millburn's team this postseason. Add in the fact they are unbeaten in the state tournament, were unbeaten in the county tournament and are a combined 35-2 this year, I'm not sure anyone has been more valuable than the doubles teams this season, never mind last week. Tim Swanson, wide receiver, football With the season that Swanson is having, it's a shame that the …
Ryan Bednarski and Tim Swanson, Millburn football Quarterback Bednarski and split end Swanson hooked up for two touchdowns in Friday night's home win over the visiting Barringer Blue Bears. Swanson also recovered a fumble and benders completed passes to two other receivers in the first win of the season for the boys. Tanya Sood, Millburn girls soccer Sood was given the assignment of marking perhaps the best scorer in the county in Livingston's Katie Schwindel. Schwindel was held to just a score, after scoring a pair in their match up earlier this year and finding the net three times to go …
Katie Beimfohr, Girls soccer For the second straight week the Miller midfielder led the girls in scoring. Despite her team having a losing week, going 1-2, she scored three goals and assisted on one. For the season, Beimfohr has tallied 10 goals and four assists and has either a score or a helper in seven of the team's 10 games played. James Raystin, Boys soccer The Millers have posted a strong 3-0 week and once again it was behind the play of its midfield. Raystin scored twice in a 4-1 win over Newark East Side on Thursday and has led the Millers to a 6-3 start. Miller Minutes The girls …
Katie Beimfohr, girls soccer center-mid The Miller girls soccer squad posted a 2-0 record this week, turning around what has been a less than stellar start to the season. After their loss to Livingston, Millburn entered the week with a 3-2 record. On Monday against Montclair Kimberley Academy, Beimfohr scored all three of Millburn's goals in a 3-2 win. In Friday's rematch of last season's county final with Montclair, Beimfohr found her sister Emily for the winning goal with a picture-perfect corner kick with a minute left in overtime. Beimfohr now has scored six goals this season and assisted…
First singles tennis star Alex Stone Millburn's top tennis player went 8-1 over the last seven days. Her only loss came against Emma Taylor of Glen Ridge in the county singles championship on Sunday morning. In winning eight matches, she helped the Miller girls tennis squad seal its sixth consecutive county championship on Saturday. Junior scorer Drew Rosenberg One of Millburn's top scorers, Rosenberg scored three times last week, helping the locals go 1-1 during that stretch. He scored once in the second half against Columbia on Monday and twice against Orange on Thursday. Miller Minutes …
