What I Want My Words To Do To You offers an unprecedented look into the minds and hearts of the women inmates of New York's Bedford Hills Correctional Facility. If you have committed a violent crime, is it possible to redeem yourself? The film goes inside a writing workshop led by playwright and activist Eve Ensler, consisting of 15 women, most of whom were convicted of murder. Through a series of exercises and discussions, the women delve into their pasts and explore the nature of their crimes and the extent of their own culpability.

Statistics about incarcerated women:

Nationally, women prisoners are the fastest growing group in the prison population.
The vast majority of women in prison have been victims of violence prior to their incarceration including domestic violence, rape, sexual assault and child abuse.
Women who are violent offenders are even more likely to have been abused and to be incarcerated for responding to that abuse violently.

Seton Hall Jazz Ensemble

Seton Hall University will present a free concert by The Seton Hall Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday, March 23, at 7:30 pm at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC). This concert is the final presentation of the Jazz 'n the Hall's 2009-10 concert series.

The concert is free and open to the public but a ticket is required for seating. To order your ticket calls the SOPAC Box Office at (973) 313-2787.

The Seton Hall Jazz Ensemble, making its debut with this inaugural concert, will feature faculty musicians and guest performers who represent all styles of jazz, from Dixie Land and Be-bop to Latin Jazz and Jazz-Rock Fusion. The program will include a broad range of nostalgic favorites from jazz of the 30's 40's and 50's including musical tributes to legendary performers and composers, like Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Glenn Miller, and The Andrews Sisters, perhaps best known for their upbeat "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", re-recorded by Bette Midler in 1972. Less traditional "jazz" selections will include music from The Beatles and American Broadway musicals.

Auditions for Youth Orchestra

The Youth Orchestras of Essex County, comprised of four performing groups: the Essex County Symphony Orchestra, the Junior Symphony, Overture Strings and Chamber Ensembles are holding auditions for the Fall 2010 season.

The orchestras are eager to explore the talent of Essex County and welcomes neighboring county residents to audition as well. All musicians currently studying with a private teacher and participating on their school music program are invited to audition. Full performances are held twice yearly - one in December and one in early May.

Auditions will be held on 3 different days and must be scheduled in advance. Monday April 19 are auditions of brass, woodwinds and percussion. String instrument auditions are on May 17 and May 24. On Thursdays beginning February 18th through April 15th, SAGE Eldercare, 290 Broad Street, Summit, NJ, will host trained volunteer tax preparers. Tax preparers are trained by the IRS through the AARP Tax Aide program.

The AARP Free Income Tax Assistance service is available to all taxpayers with middle or low income, with special attention given to people who are age 60 and older. The tax program is offered to all area residents.

Registration for this service is required. Taxpayers should bring a copy of their 2008 Federal and State income tax returns; their 2009 income tax packets; their November 2009 real estate tax bill; Federal information forms for 2009 (W-2 forms; SSA 1099 form; 1099s for interest; dividends and other income, 1099 for pension, annuity and IRA distribution; 1099 B forms for assets sold during the year; receipts or cancelled checks if itemizing deductions; and Social Security numbers for dependents.
