Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. is inviting children, adults and families to the Essex County Environmental Center’s Eighth Annual OctoberFest Fall Family Celebration. This exciting and fun-filled event is a great way to learn about the environment as you celebrate the arrival of fall. The free day-long activities will be held as follows:

OctoberFest will be held RAIN or SHINE.

“OctoberFest is a great opportunity to visit our state-of-the-art Environmental Center and meet our environmental partners,” DiVincenzo said. “I invite you to celebrate the arrival of autumn at the Essex County Environmental Center’s Annual OctoberFest Fall Family Celebration! Take a walk in our pumpkin patch, enjoy the garden harvest and paddle down the Passaic River at a leisurely pace,” he added.

Visitors to OctoberFest can go on canoe trips on the Passaic River or nature walks in Essex County’s West Essex Park. There will be a petting zoo, gardening tips, a live beehive display, woodturning demonstrations, pumpkin carving demonstrations, nature arts and crafts, face painting, free refreshments, a pumpkin patch maze and display tables from a variety of eco-vendors. Participating in OctoberFest with the Environmental Center are the County’s partner agencies: New Jersey Audubon, Essex County Master Gardeners, Essex County Beekeepers, 4-H Club, Essex County Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Essex County Nature Photographers, New Jersey Woodturners Association and the Essex County Environmental Commission.

Octoberfest is sponsored by TD Bank, Whole Foods Market of West Orange, REI of East Hanover and Starbucks of Roseland. Admission throughout the day is free. For more information, please call 973-228-8776.
