Yale A Cappella Group Coming to Town

The Spizzwinks(?), Yale University's oldest all-male a cappella group, and the world's oldest underclassman singing group, will be coming to town, performing a concert at Christ Church in Summit on Friday night October 25 at 7:30pm. The concert will feature Max Sauberman of Millburn (MHS Class of 2013), a freshman member of the group.

The Yale Spizzwinks(?) are currently celebrating its 100th year, as they were founded in 1914. They draw members from the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes, while seniors have the opportunity to audition for the widely acclaimed Whiffenpoofs.

This year's group features 18 singers - and over the course of each member's three years as a Spizzwink(?), they are guaranteed to visit and perform at all six inhabitable continents, and in every member's hometown. This year alone, the group will tour the entire East Coast, visit New Zealand, and take a four-week tour across Europe.

Ryan Campbell, of nearby Stirling NJ, will also be featured.

Max just graduated Millburn High School this June, having participated in all eight Limelight productions over the course of his four years. Max wrote a school column for Millburn-Short Hills Patch throughout high school. He sang with the school's choir and chorale, conducted the band at football games, was a Forensics team captain, led the Drama Club, and directed Soulfege, MHS' student-run a cappella group, from the end of his sophomore year until graduation.

Soulfege will be opening the Summit concert for the Spizzwinks(?) with a small set of their own.

Tickets will be $10 for students and $15 for adults, and can be purchased at the door or in advance (spizzwinks.ticketbud.com/summit). The concert will run approximately 60 minutes.
