Investors Foundation Helps Fund Ambulance Purchase for First Aid Squad

The Investors Foundation, which provides funding to nonprofit organizations that enrich the communities served by Investors Bank, has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad.

Established in 1958, the First Aid Squad today has 60 active members as well as 16 cadets and student members.  The Squad, which has four EMTs on duty for each shift 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, will use the grant to offset its recent acquisition of a new state-of-the-art ambulance to replace a retired vehicle.

“We answer more than 1,500 calls a year, which puts a great deal of wear and tear on our fleet of ambulances,” said H. Steven Roth, the Squad’s long-term president, who has served as a volunteer EMT for more than 20 years.  “We typically maintain an ambulance for ten years, but have had to stretch this out due to the recent economic recession.  Our newest vehicle features four-wheel drive to help drivers maneuver during inclement weather, airbags in the back of the ambulance to enhance protection for patients and volunteers, and anti-microbial surfaces to protect against infection.”

“Every day, the hard-working men and women of the Millburn-Short Hills Volunteer First Aid Squad provide top-quality emergency response services to local residents in need,” said Investors Bank President and CEO Kevin Cummings.  “They are tireless in the pursuit of their mission, and they deserve our support.”

“Every member of the First Aid Squad is a volunteer, and since our inception, we have served Millburn and Short Hills without public assistance, relying solely on the donations of local residents and businesses,” said Roth.  “We are enormously grateful to our friends at the Investors Foundation for their generous support.”
