St. Rose of Lima Academy Heaven - Stories of Faith

The students in Mrs. Carangelo’s Second Grade Class, at St. Rose of Lima Academy listened carefully to Father Alex’s enthusiastic homily on All Saints Day.  Father Alex asked the students to think about Heaven and to know that it is real.  Upon returning to the classroom, the children put more thought into what Heaven might really be like.  Each child had their own ideas about how they imagined Heaven to be.  There were so many different ideas that the class decided to each write their own version and that they could combine all of them into a wonderful class book.  Just like that, Heaven – Stories of Faith, was created!

As the Holy Spirit guided each little hand, the words just flowed out of each child.  One student wrote, “You are always perfect in Heaven.  You never make mistakes!”  Another student wrote that when you go to sleep in Heaven, “Angels surround your bed and sing lullabies and read Bible stories to you.”   One can’t help smiling picturing this student’s version, “I love Heaven because you can eat so much candy and you will not get a cavity!  The roller coasters will not have any height requirement!”

As another student wrote “I think you learn a new language”, others described “Clouds that look like cotton candy and taste like them too” and “Heaven smells like roses”, as well as “Your bed in Heaven is the softest thing on Earth!”  Yet one can only marvel at the following student’s idea, “I think that you get to protect one person on Earth and that there is a well for you to look down through to see the person you protect.  I think you help that person throughout their life and that when they die; you get to meet them in Heaven.  Then you choose another baby to protect.”

Each student received a copy of this inspirational book to take home and share with their families.  Many children decided that if they read it before going to sleep at night they would never have any more nightmares!

Jesus’ light is certainly shining brightly in Second Grade!
