Andrew's Pit Crew No. 2 In Fundraising For Valerie Fund Walk

Andrew's Pit Crew, named for a 4-year-old boy with stage-4 Neuroblastoma cancer, has raised $14,326 so far.

Little Andrew is described as a happy-go-lucky 4-year-old. In pictures, he can be seen playing with cars and riding his toy scooter.

In his four short years, however, he's been through 10 rounds of chemo, two rounds of high dosed radiation, and numerous surgeries and blood transfusions after being diagnosed with stage-4 Neuroblastoma cancer, a type of cancer in which the adrenal glands are deformed at infancy.

He's since become the inspiration for Andrew's Pit Crew, a participating team in the Valerie Fund's Walk 5K Run that will take place June 14 at Verona Park on Bloomfield and Lakeside avenues, with the 5K race starting at 8:30 a.m. and the walk taking place at 10 a.m.

Andrew's Pit Crew is No. 2 in fundraising so far, having raised $14,326. The team has said that it encourages everyone who can attend the race to be present or make a donation on the Valerie Fund's website.

The Valerie Fund is looking to reach a goal of $1,000,000 in donations this year.

The Valerie Fund is an organization that helps children and families of children with cancer and blood disorders receive support from a multidisciplinary team. The Fund helps treat more than 4,000 children annually.
