Fourth of July Ceremony to Honor Doc, HS Grad

Dr. Martin Levine and Emily Young will be presented the Patriot Award at Millburn's Fourth of July festivities for response at Boston Marathon bombings.

Millburn has a full day of activities planned for the Fourth of July on Thursday with duck races, pony rides, flag rising ceremony, and of course, fireworks.

Millburn residents Dr. Martin Levine and Emily Young will be presented with the Patriot Award for providing aid to participants and spectators in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Levine was working as a finish line physician at the marathon as he had for the previous 19 years. Also helping at the event, was Millburn High School graduate Young, a junior in the Boston University Athletic Training/Physical Therapy program.

The Fourth kicks off with a 9 a.m. flag ceremony followed by the parade of decorated bikes, trikes and strollers, and then lacrosse and softball games.

Here's the run down of the day's events:

  • 9 a.m.  The flag-raising at Taylor Park 
  • 9:15 a.m. The Patriot Award presentation to Levine and Young
  • 9:30 a.m. The bike/trike/stroller parade 
  • 10:00 a.m. The girls’ All Star softball game 
  • 11 to 3 p.m Taylor Park is filled with event for the family include pony rides and amusement rides along with a Revolutionary War Encampment
  • 7 p.m.  At the Millburn High School Krazy Kat will play patriotic music.

The day will be topped off with the evening fireworks display at Millburn High School. Advanced purchase tickets for the full day of events are $10 and those bought on July 4th will cost $12.

Evening fireworks-only tickets are $5 each. The website reminds you to bring a blanket to the fireworks, as chairs will not be allowed on the field.
