Fundraiser to Benefit Colon Cancer Research

On August 16, Bloomingdales at the Mall at Short Hills will donate 10 percent of sales to the Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation.

The Colon Cancer Challenge Foundation (CCCF), a New York-based nonprofit dedicated to reducing colorectal cancer incidence and death throughout the United States, is holding a fundraiser on August 16 at the Bloomingdale’s in the Mall at Short Hills.

The store will donate 10 percent of sales from that day when shoppers take their receipts to customer service.

The fundraiser is being held in the memory of Robin Maxwell, a Short Hills resident who passed away from colon cancer in December 2013.

Her husband, Charles Kligman, their children, and friends and family will be at the mall with information about colon cancer and and the importance of early screening, as well as encouraging people to participate in the fundraiser.

“When it comes to colon cancer, every conversation we have and every dollar we raise can save a life. With screening and early detection, colorectal cancer is easily treated. So we can save many lives just through advancing education, screening and research,” said Kligman, who is also a CCCF board member.

Kligman became dedicated to raising awareness and funding research for colorectal cancer when Robin was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2009. Following her diagnosis, Robin, Charles and their family and friends were among the top fundraisers for CCCF as Team Robin the Brave.

Their commitment to fighting colorectal cancer was again renewed when Robin passed away in December 2013.

The money raised from the Bloomingdale’s event will go toward funding CCCF programs such as education, research and screening for the uninsured.

The Mall at Short Hills, 1200 Morris Turnpike, will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.
