The power company is anticipating construction work to start in various areas throughout the township, beginning Dec. 26.

PSE&G is upgrading and replacing an underground electric transmission circuit in Essex County as part of the North Central Reliability Project, according to a press release from the company.

The purpose of this infrastructure upgrade is to continue to ensure safe, reliable utility service for area residents and business owners.

According to the release, construction in the township is anticipated around Brookside Drive and Glen Avenue near the South Mountain Reservation, Main Street near East Willow Street, Millburn Avenue near Lackawanna Place and Whittingham Terrace near Parkview Drive.

The transmission circuit in the county runs from PSE&G’s West Orange Switching Station through West Orange, Maplewood, Millburn, Springfield, through Union into the Springfield Road Substation.

Construction activities along the nine-mile circuit will be completed between January 2014 and June 2014.  During this period, utility service to PSE&G customers will not be impacted.

According to the release, the construction dates and scheduled work hours identified are tentative and subject to minimal variations due to the construction process and weather sensitive work activities. Road or lane closings with possible detours will be necessary during construction.

Motorists are encouraged to travel an alternate route until the work is completed.  Local police will be on site at all times to oversee new traffic patterns. Interruptions will be kept to a minimum, and PSE&G regrets any inconvenience the project may cause, according to the release.
